The Mexican Caribbean Golf Association Established

May 2005 - Iberostar Hotels & Resorts has been instrumental in the recent formation of the Mexican Caribbean Golf Association. The association's mission is to promote golf as the main sport in the Riviera Maya and Cancun region.

The grand opening of Iberostar's Playa Paraiso Golf Club and its' magnificent, 18-hole, par-72 golf course was the catalyst for Iberostar's enthusiastic involvement in the new golf organization. With the projected opening set for June, this spectacular new course is the latest creation of world-renowned golf course architect P.B. Dye. The course is located on the property of Iberostar's newest and highest-tier resort, the Iberostar Paraiso Maya and adjacent to the other Iberostar Playa Paraiso resorts: Iberostar Paraiso del Mar, Iberostar Paraiso Beach, and Iberostar Paraiso Lindo. This new course will further position the Mexican Caribbean as one of the most popular golf destinations in the world.

"Iberostar Hotels & Resorts played a key role in the formation of the Mexican Caribbean Golf Association. The addition of the Playa Paraiso Golf Course to our region's collection of courses will attract players from all over the world," stated Mr. Akira Tominaga, president of the association. "We believe that Iberostar's enthusiasm and support for the association will do much to promote the sport of golf in the beautiful Riviera Maya." There are currently nine golf courses located on the Riviera Maya and the island of Cozumel, bordering the spectacular turquoise waters of the Caribbean Sea. The regions' magnificent tropical forests, beautiful lagoons, natural wells and mangrove swamps lend themselves to the development of spectacular courses. This natural beauty has attracted some the world's best golf course architects, including Jack Nicklaus, Robert Trent Jones, Jr. and Robert Von Hagge. Now, P.B. Dye, the designer of Iberostar Hotel & Resort's much anticipated Playa Paraiso Golf Course, will be added to the list of esteemed architects already represented in the area.

The Mexican Caribbean Golf Association foresees recognition of the Mexico's Riviera Maya region as one of the world's best golf destinations. Under the leadership of the association, members will work towards a mutual goal of increasing the amount of play the courses receive and establishing the highest golf standards in the world. Maintaining and developing championship golf courses at the highest international standards is the association's ultimate goal.
