The Land Before Time: Return To The Great Valley Sound Source Interactive became an official player in the console gaming market today with the release of The Land Before Time: Return To The Great Valley for the PlayStation game console, the company's first such release. Licensed by Universal Studios Consumer Products Group, this also marks the introduction of the coveted franchise The Land Before Time on the console gaming platform. Developed by RealTime Associates for kids 4-12 years, the game emphasizes fun and adventure and is expected to strongly appeal to parents who want to expose their children to non-violent yet entertaining and challenging content.
"As parents ourselves, we enjoy creating fun games for kids that pique their curiosity, stimulate their creativity and challenge their minds," noted Vincent Bitetti, chief executive officer of Sound Source. "Parents who purchase our CD-ROM games trust Sound Source Interactive to make high-quality, fun, non-violent entertainment for their children. Now they will get the same unwavering commitment for the games we create for console systems."

Children can play four of the highly recognizable characters, Littlefoot, Cera, Ducky and Spike, colorfully rendered in three dimensions. Playing as the friendly dinos, kids will romp through 20 fun-filled levels of vibrantly animated settings. Each level includes challenging, developmentally appropriate puzzles carefully crafted to appeal to kids 4-to-8 and to pre-teen girls 8-to-12 years. And if a player needs a helpful hint to solve a puzzle, Petrie, the charming pterodactyl, is there to guide the way.

The game also marks the first expression of The Land Before Time franchise on a console gaming platform. "Great kids' games must have engaging characters and outstanding content," continued Bitetti. "We are very pleased that our first console game is with The Land Before Time license. The strength and appeal of its characters, combined with our creative content, will give kids many hours of entertainment."

"Universal Studios Consumer Products is proud to have Sound Source bring The Land Before Time adventures that teach family values and positive lessons of learning to the console gaming market," said Nancy Cushing-Jones, president of publishing rights, Universal Studios Consumer Products Group. "The beloved The Land Before Time franchise has captured the hearts of children all over the world with its lovable characters for over 10 years."

In the game, trouble begins to brew when the little dinos discover a stolen Sharptooth dinosaur's egg in The Great Valley, far from its home in The Great Beyond. Realizing a very angry Sharptooth mother will soon begin looking for her egg, the helpful band of friends decides to return it. Just as the egg is safely nestled in its home, the fearsome Sharptooth mother appears, panicking the friends, who scatter in fright. Lost and alone, the four friends need a player's help to find their way through the mysterious lands of The Great Beyond and home to The Great Valley.

The Land Before Time: Return to the Great Valley is for single players and works with a memory card. The game is also compatible with the DUALSHOCK analog controller, vibration function and the PlayStation2 computer entertainment system. The game is available now at retailers nationwide.
