Slim New IBM NetVista Computers Fit Inside Furniture
November1, 2000 . . . IBM yesterday
introduced
new
NetVista A20 business computers that combine small size, full
functionality
and low cost. Starting at $640, the sleek, black NetVista A20's
uniquely
designed small form factor features powerful, proven technology for
price-conscious customers.
About the size of a small home VCR, the new NetVista A20 is one of IBM's smallest desktop computers and measures 3.5" high by 12.5" wide by 15.4" deep (90 mm by 318 mm by 391mm). The desktop computer market is moving quickly toward smaller sizes, and analysts project that 75 percent of the market by 2003 will be in all-in-one, micro tower, slim and small form factors.
"The amount of space a computer demands is more and more important to nearly all businesses," says Brian Dalgetty, director of marketing, IBM NetVista desktop systems. "The compact new design of the NetVista A20 allows for greater flexibility because people can fit them nearly anywhere, including inside or underneath furniture. It's ideal for space-constrained environments such as offices and classrooms."
With three PCI slots and three bays, the NetVista A20 is easily upgradeable despite its small size. As part of IBM's NetVista line, the NetVista A20 offers unparalleled ease of use; stylish, efficient design; and fast, reliable network connections. And because data is the most important asset in any business, protection of that data is vital and the NetVista A20 provides several important tools to help protect it from loss or damage:
Specifications for the New NetVista A20
The newest NetVista A20 features a choice of Intel Pentium III processors at speeds up to 800 MHz with a 133 MHz front-side bus, or Intel Celeron processors up to 633 MHz with a 66 MHz front-side bus. It includes 64 or 128 megabytes of SDRAM, up to a maximum of 512 megabytes, and 10-gigabyte or 15-gigabyte Ultra ATA/66 hard drives. The small form factor offers three PCI slots and three bays, enabling users to add components such as optical storage, communication adapters, and other features. Ethernet 10/100 networking is available with a low-profile PCI adapter. Software pre-loads include Windows 98, Windows Millenium or Windows 2000/Windows NT 4.0 Choose 'N Recover.
The NetVista A Series also offers micro-tower and mini-tower models in addition to the standard desktop design, allowing users to choose the best size for their space requirements.

- SMART Reaction II software can automatically back up the data on the hard drive of the NetVista A20 if an impending disk failure is detected.
- ConfigSafe software can automatically back up system files in the event of a system failure.
- Norton AntiVirus software is an industry-leading package that identifies and eliminates computer viruses that can destroy vital data.
- Backup of the system preload is facilitated by a image on a hidden partition of the system hard drive - reducing the need for recovery CDs that could be misplaced or damaged.
