Samsung, AT&T Wireless Announce New Relationship

August 18, 2003—Samsung and AT&T today announced an agreement that will bring consumers new products and services from two of the wireless industry's leaders. The strategic relationship is seen as a strong fit between companies known for their innovation and market-driven strategies.

The first product to be marketed from this new alliance will be the v206, a distinguished clam-shell designed phone featuring an embedded full color camera. Available in August 2003, the v206 will include a full color TFD LCD screen, enhanced messaging services and polyphonic ring tone sounds.

As the fastest growing brand of any wireless manufacturer (Interbrand), Samsung will bring its substantial consumer marketing expertise, its revolutionary product design and its intuitive technology development to AT&T Wireless' customers. These capabilities have helped Samsung become the number one manufacturer in cell phone loyalty among cell phone users (Brand Keys).

AT&T Wireless customers can use the new phone to access mMode high-speed data services, imaging, text messaging and wireless Web services. mMode keeps people productive and entertained with a variety of applications, including games, music downloads and access to information, whether they are traveling, on the job or vacationing.

Samsung and AT&T Wireless will provide consumers with additional choices for high-end GSM products, leading to increased market penetration for both partners. With wireless penetration in the U.S. at approximately 50 percent, increasing market share and customer loyalty are becoming critical metrics for success.

"This agreement places Samsung's products with all of the leading carriers across the two major network technologies," said Chris Ambrosio, director, wireless device strategies, Strategy Analytics. "Samsung has taken a significant step in successfully balancing its product offering and is poised to compete effectively in GSM markets. For AT&T Wireless, they'll be able to grow their customer base by leveraging Samsung's expertise and brand in high end products and imaging features."

"Our relationship with AT&T Wireless gives consumers innovative technology from a venture of industry powerhouses," said Peter Skarzynski, senior vice president of Samsung's wireless terminals division. "It marks a collaboration between high-quality wireless communication services and award-winning product designs."

"Samsung's knowledge and expertise will help us continue to provide the most advanced wireless devices and services for our customers," said Ketan Kamdar, vice president product development for AT&T Wireless.

The Samsung v206 will be available in August for $399.99 at select AT&T Wireless retail outlets, authorized dealers and online at www.attwireless.com.
