Riviera Maya Boutique Hotel Re-Launches Post Hurricane Wilma
January 25, 2006 - Named by Condé Nast Traveler Magazine as one of the top three hotels in Latin America and by Travel + Leisure magazine as one of the best hotels in all of Mexico and Central and South America, Maroma Resort and Spa has become known as "the" celebrity hideaway on the Riviera Maya, hosting Tom Cruise, Sean Penn and Cameron Diaz, among others.
Part of the Orient-Express Hotels, Trains and Cruises collection, this 64-room boutique hotel and spa has had over 300 staff and contractors on property completing repairs following Hurricane Wilma, which hit the Riviera Maya in October of 2005.
"Returning after the storm and seeing the damage was heart breaking to all of us. The entire team is like family and the property is a very special place to us and to our past guests" commented Felipe Espinoza, General Manager of Maroma Resort and Spa. "However, it is inspiring to see what we have accomplished after only 16 weeks; when we re-open on February 21, 2006 guests will once again see why Maroma has gained a reputation for its beauty, serenity and soul."
The February opening includes the launch of the much anticipated Sian Nah suites. Sian Nah is Mayan for House of Heaven, which describes the new collection of eight ultra luxurious ocean front suites. Each suite is a complete sanctuary equipped with its own spa space for massages and spa treatments, a wellness area with fitness equipment, a living room, a bedroom, a spacious outdoor terrace private plunge pool, lounge area and dining palapa. Rates start at $1465.00 per night.
The Sian Nah suites at Maroma Resort and Spa are integrated into the existing design of what is often called Maroma's handmade style - organic architecture with rounded walls and edges that undulate like the waves on the beautiful Caribbean Sea accented by large expanses of windows and doors that allow the outdoor spaces to flow effortlessly into the interior ones.
The hotel's nearly 7000 square foot Kinan Spa, which celebrated its opening in early 2005, will also re-open with its full range of treatments along with a new healing mud bar.
Built-by-hand in the tradition of the Mexican haciendas, Maroma Resort and Spa offers personal service, warm hospitality and unsurpassed privacy. Set on a former 500-acre coconut plantation that borders the Caribbean Sea, this hotel is amongst the most sought after places on the Riviera Maya for its unspoiled beach and jungle. The property features three restaurants, two tennis court, three pools, a cultural palapa, and the full service Mayan inspired Kinan Spa. Located off of the world's second largest coral reef, the hotel is a mecca for snorkelers and scuba enthusiasts, and offers a full service water activity palapa for sailing, kayaking and scuba certification.
Maroma Resort and Spa is consistently hailed by discerning publications such as The New York Times, Town & Country, Vogue, Gourmet and Andrew Harper's Hideaway Report. The resort has also been singled out by the Travel Channel for "Best Beach in the World" and "Most Romantic Honeymoon Spot".
