Reno Named No. 2 Best Adventure Town in U.S.

March 24, 2005 -- Reno-Tahoe’s Americas Adventure Place campaign is making an impression on Americans across the country and now it has made its way onto the pages of Men’s Journal Magazine in its annual Best Places to Live issue with two rankings. Reno earned the number two spot on the list of best adventure towns, following closely behind Bend, Ore., and ranked third on the list of 50 best places to live, up from its eighth place ranking last year.

The national publication, an adventure lifestyle magazine with circulation over 670,000, annually rates cities across the nation based on a range of criteria, crowning those that come out on top in categories such as best overall, best adventure towns, best bargain mountain or beach town, best big city, least stressful, best women, best nightlife, healthiest and smartest town.

We truly feel that earning this spot on the list of top 50 adventure towns is a direct result of our Americas Adventure Place messaging that we have been working so hard to promote over the last four years, said Deanna Ashby, executive director of marketing for the Reno-Sparks Convention and Visitors Authority (RSCVA). We are so pleased that Reno and Tahoe are finally being recognized for its unique offerings to the traveling consumer. After all, where else can you ski at your choice of 18 ski resorts, golf at one of the regions 50 challenging courses then try your luck at the Nevada-style casinos at night? Reno-Tahoe boasts so many ways for travelers to get outdoors and enjoy the scenic surroundings and we are proud to see it acknowledged on a national level for what it does best…adventure!

Cities ranked in the April issue of Men’s Journal were determined by nearly 50 variables ranging from stress levels to new data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics and the Census Bureau to evaluating active living with a greater emphasis on elements such as the amount of wilderness nearby. The best adventure town category is based specifically on recreational criteria including what to do in the area, natural surroundings and more.
