RadioShack, JAMDAT Mobile Team Up to Bring Mobile Gaming to Neighborhoods

August 2005 – RadioShack just announced the availability of JAMDAT Mobile games for Sprint and Cingular Wireless customers at its more than 5,000 neighborhood retail outlets. This collaboration will give millions of subscribers easy access to JAMDAT’s popular selection of mobile games, including Tetris, JAMDAT Bowling 2, Bejeweled, Solitaire, Yahtzee and Casino/Blackjack. RadioShack is the first major, national consumer electronics retailer with a focus on delivering wireless mobile gaming content directly to its customers.

According to published reports from market research firm IDC, the mobile gaming industry is poised to show dramatic growth within the next three years. Current projections place the mobile gaming industry at around $500 million in annual sales. However, with increasingly more popular games hitting the market, and with more people understanding the ease, affordability and enjoyment of playing games on their wireless devices, the market may reach $1.5 billion as early as 2008.

“People don’t view their wireless phones as mere communication tools anymore,� said Don Carroll, RadioShack’s senior vice president, chief marketing and brand officer. “They’re now looking for ways to customize and expand their mobile experience, whether with ring tones, screen savers or games. Carroll said that while JAMDAT games will only be currently available to RadioShack customers who have Sprint or Cingular Wireless services, RadioShack is working to expand the list of carriers in the near future.

RadioShack currently offers customers six of the most popular JAMDAT games, including Tetris, Bejeweled, JAMDAT Bowling 2, Yahtzee, Solitaire and Casino/Blackjack. JAMDAT games are available on a subscription basis, ranging in price from $1.99 to $2.99 a month, or as stand-alone one-time transactions ranging from $5.99 to $6.99.
