Psion Launches New RFID Hand-Held DeviceThis new RFID device allows mobile workers to process, retrieve and transfer data between their hand-held device and RFID Tags or Smart Labels for a variety of enterprise applications. March 23- Psion Teklogix, a global provider of mobile computing solutions for the enterprise, today launched the Workabout RFID (radio frequency identification) industrial hand-held device. The Workabout RFID delivers an industry leading solution for efficient identification, tracking and management of electronically tagged goods in the manufacturing, warehousing, logistics and transportation sectors. The device allows workers to transfer and retrieve real-time data between hand-held computers and RFID tags or smart labels, thereby enhancing end-to-end control of industrial processes and delivering inventory information to a broader range of mobile workers. The Workabout RFID system includes advanced 13.56MHz scanning technology, incorporating one of the smallest, most power efficient RFID modules available on the market. It is compatible with the latest tagging and smart label standards giving mobile workers fast, secure, real-time access to business-critical enterprise and product data in a wide range of industrial environments. Workabout RFID solutions are ideal for applications such as stock and inventory management in manufacturing and warehousing, parcel tracking and tracing, and monitoring logistical activities. As well as being one of the smallest and most lightweight devices in its class, the Workabout RFID has been ruggedised to withstand use in the most demanding indoor and outdoor situations. The device operates over a wide range of temperatures, is dustproof and splashproof, and will withstand a 1 metre drop onto concrete. It also incorporates tough, hardwearing keys and casing, and a large, clear backlit display. The long life-battery and power efficient design makes the device ideal for use over long shifts. Tag and smart label specific programs can be written in C using an available software development kit which has been developed jointly by Psion Teklogix and id Systems. Client/server tools are also available to allow mobile workers to use applications and access information created with any OVAL, OPL or C program. "The Workabout RFID is the latest addition to the industrial data collection solutions offered by Psion Teklogix, allowing enterprises to streamline all business processes," said Bruce Brown, Vice President of Marketing & Strategy at Psion Teklogix. "It now allows us to meet the increasing market demand for RFID tag and smart label hand-held scanning capability and complements Psion Teklogix' existing industrial solutions for data collection in the Auto ID marketplace."
