Polaroid Spectra 1200 FF April 17 -- Polaroid today debuted its new sleek, compact Polaroid Spectra 1200 FF instant camera -- continuing the Polaroid traditions of fun, sharing and making on-the-spot connections with family, friends and others. Sporting a stylish and contemporary design, the new Spectra 1200 FF offers the excitement and spontaneity of Polaroid instant photography, combined with the appeal of a lightweight, ultra-portable camera. Building on the company's core strength in instant technology, the Spectra 1200 FF offers consumers a modern update to the Polaroid camera that has been a timeless favorite for more than 50 years.
"Instant imaging has been a part of consumers' lives since the introduction of the first Polaroid camera in 1948. And, in fact, many consumers attribute their first experience with photography to Polaroid," says Alison Corcoran, vice president - consumer marketing. "Today, hundreds of millions of instant photos are taken each year. The new Spectra 1200 FF will provide consumers and Polaroid enthusiasts with a more stylish camera and film system that takes quality instant photos and continues to offer an 'instant' connection to family and friends."

Designed to address consumer feedback, the new silver Polaroid camera offers a smaller, more convenient shape, and is portable, weighing 23 percent less than its predecessor, and compact, measuring only 5.3-inches wide, 7-inches deep and 2.6-inches high. The new camera also folds down and comes with a strap that can be used for carrying the camera around the neck or over the shoulder, easily transcending all lifestyle activities for capturing those "in-the-moment" memories.

In addition to its new sleek, retro-look, the Spectra 1200 FF integrates new features for taking quality instant photos, including a wider angle of viewing for capturing 33 percent more information in an image. Other key features include a smart counter that automatically tracks the number of frames available in a film pack; two manually selected focus zones for close-up and distance photography; and an LED light to indicate when the camera is in close-up mode. The camera uses the Polaroid 10-frame, wide-format Spectra instant film (4 x 4.1-inches image size).

The all-new Spectra camera has the one-of-a-kind mystique that brings excitement and liveliness to everyday activities, such as parties, holidays, family gatherings and lifetime milestones. And, with the simplicity of Polaroid instant photography, the Spectra 1200 FF offers an easy way to make instant connections with families and friends. A recent survey shows that capturing memories instantly (57 percent) is one of consumers' favorite things about Polaroid instant photos. The telephone survey was conducted for Polaroid Corporation by CARAVAN(R)/Opinion Research Corporation International(R), among 1,019 adults surveyed nationally on April 6-9, 2001.

"The Spectra 1200 FF provides consumers with the instant fun and gratification that only instant photography can deliver, but also the flexibility to provide film-based images that can be shared in-the-moment and on-the-spot or scanned and digitized later for e-mailing or Web posting," said Corcoran.

The new Polaroid Spectra 1200 FF will be supported by an extensive marketing campaign that includes advertising, promotions and public relations. The new advertising campaign, featuring the Spectra 1200 FF in real life moments, will debut on national television in June and will be followed by print advertisements that will appear in July issues of select publications. In addition, Polaroid will kick-off the "Polaroid Life of the Party" promotion this fall, where consumers will have the opportunity to win a grand prize of $100,000 to throw the ultimate party and experience the fun of the "instant party."
