Polaroid Introduces New Medium-Format Digital Film Scanner

Feb. 12 -- Polaroid today officially announced the newest addition to its award-winning SprintScan line, the SprintScan 120 medium-format digital film scanner. Offering detailed, sharp images, the new SprintScan 120 produces high-quality output with an optical density up to 3.9 (4.2 Dmax) and a true optical resolution of 4000 dots per inch (dpi), making it one of the highest resolution medium- format scanners on the market today. In addition, the SprintScan 120 is the only medium-format scanner to include both SCSI and FireWire connections.

Using the system's advanced CCD and superior optical density, the SprintScan 120 achieves outstanding shadow detail and sharpness of fine lines and images, while virtually eliminating noise in the dark areas of the scanned image. The SprintScan 120 accepts 120 film formats, including 6x4.5 cm, 6x6 cm, 6x7 cm and 6x9 cm, 35 mm positive and negatives slides and filmstrips. In addition, the scanner provides automatic advancement of six-image, 35 mm filmstrips and four-image 35 mm slides for increased productivity and functionality.

The SprintScan 120 ships with Polaroid PolaColor Insight Pro software. Compatible with PC and Macintosh platforms, this innovative software provides a simple user interface that is ideal for basic and advanced scanning tasks. PolaColor Insight Pro automatically removes and eliminates surface flaws, such as dust and fingerprints, and features automatic image sizing and saving scan settings. Optimizing scanning performance, the PolaColor software includes predefined film profiles for the most commonly used film types. The software also allows the user to obtain optimum brightness, shadow detail and overall color from a scanned image with automatic enhancement controls, combined with the power of full professional image adjustment tools. In addition, PolaColor Insight Pro software provides JPEG file format, manual defocus, custom frame selections and text edit boxes.

Additionally, the new scanner is available with the SilverFast Ai from Lasersoft and Photo Perfect Advanced from binuscan software packages through the Polaroid SprintScan 120 Plus. Offering increased flexibility, Polaroid created this option to provide both beginning and advanced professionals with a powerful tool for optimizing scanning and color reproduction. Key features of SilverFast Ai include real-time image adjustments and IT8 calibration tool for creating positive film profiles, as well as support of ICC compliant workflow for total color management. Photo Perfect Advanced is extremely user-friendly and offers one step scanning for negatives that are difficult to correct. Both SilverFast Ai and Photo Perfect Advanced are complementary to the PolaColor Insight Pro software and offer users a total software solution.

The suggested U.S. list price of the new SprintScan 120 is $2,795 and the SprintScan 120 Plus is $3,250.
