Time, Poor Quality and Complexity Hinder Photo SharingJuly 21, 2008 - Cameras continue to become more popular, sophisticated and hold more media, however, consumers find it remains difficult to share their pictures, according to a new survey conducted by Memeo Inc, a leader in digital media management services for the home and small business. Out of 234 respondents, 79% revealed they have taken digital photos they intended to share, but never did. Key frustrations when sharing pictures include the amount of time required (68%) in addition to having to use low-resolution photos, which is often the result of resizing pictures in order to email or upload them to online destinations. The survey also exposed the downsides of photo-sharing sites. The respondents' biggest annoyances with using online services are that it takes a long time to upload pictures (36%) and they often prove ineffective as family members don't know how to use them (19%). Another issue identified by those surveyed was complexity, which included the amount of steps to create and share an album, having to upload photos to multiple locations in order to share with intended recipients and the inability for anyone to use the pictures as they are 'trapped' online. According to IC Insights, digital still camera shipments are forecast to grow 10% in 2008 to 96.5 million units worldwide (1). With digital photography showing no signs of slowing down, it is becoming increasingly important for consumers to have a simple method to share their content. "Even though cameras are one of the most popular consumer electronics items, sharing pictures is still a challenge for the average person," said Hong Bui, CEO and co-founder of Memeo. "Individuals continue to struggle with finding the best way to share the memories they capture with the people that are most important to them." For consumers who are looking for an easy way to share their digital photos with friends and family, Memeo offers Memeo Share, a media sharing service that seamlessly delivers high-resolution, original photos directly to the computer desktops of user-created Sharing Circles(tm).
