PDN & Kodak Showcase Images by Photojournalist Steve McCurry
March 12, 2002 -- Kodak Professional and Photo District News, announced today the compelling and poignant pictures of award-winning photographer Steve McCurry featured in the latest version of Legends Online at www.pdnonline.com or www.kodak.com. Named the 2002 PMDA Photographer of the Year at the Photoimaging Manufacturers and Distributors Association (PMDA) Conference on February 23rd, Steve McCurry captures the human drama in world events dating back to the 1970’s. Legends Online features McCurry's signature images of everyday people in Afghanistan and India; an insightful portrait collection; and a gallery of memorable photos of September 11. "The thing I want people to take away from my work is the human connection between all of us," says McCurry in the site’s accompanying interview. A gifted photojournalist, McCurry is also a veteran road warrior, and the site offers experienced tips for other photographers who travel the world on assignment. He advises, "Travel light, aim for business or first class flights, find a translator or guide you can really trust, change your appearance to blend into the local culture, allow yourself to be open to the unexpected."
Karen Smith-Pilkington, President of Kodak Professional, adds, "Legends Online offers unique insights into the world of professional photographers and their work. Kodak Professional began this venture, Legends Online, with Photo District News, five years ago as a way to inspire and inform professional photographers the world over, and feature our loyal customers who help raise the bar of the industry overall."
The renowned National Geographic shooter has produced four books on Asia, and has won many accolades during his career. "McCurry is well known for his ability to create unforgettable images in a visual story telling context," explains Jeffrey Roberts, Publisher of PDN, parent of PDNOnline. "Featuring his work is another example of the outstanding caliber of talent that has made Legends Online such a success within the professional photographic community," adds Roberts.
