Oakroom Celebrates Summer and Hotel’s 100th Anniversary

May 2, 2005 – As the warmer temperatures bring longer days, The Oakroom is celebrating the season with a summer-long series of special events. From a 100th birthday bash where guests can play billiards and sip bourbon to a special culinary tribute to the Kentucky State Fair, The Oakroom is cooking up some wonderful offerings this summer.

“In honoring the hotel’s anniversary we created a series of wonderful events,” explains Chef de Cuisine Todd Richards. “Our summer calendar will allow people to come in and see The Oakroom in a different light. Sure we are in a historic hotel but our take on food is the future of Kentucky fine dining!”

In honor of the hotel’s 100th anniversary, The Oakroom is re-creating the billiards club that once filled the restaurant when the hotel opened in 1905. Now guests will get a chance to experience the “golden days” again during the “Seelbach Billiards and Bourbon Celebration.” During this special event, to be held nightly May 18-21, billiards tables will be set-up in the Anteroom, just outside The Oakroom. A Four Roses cocktail reception, featuring jazz from The Dick Sisto Trio, will begin at 6 p.m., with a special 1932-inspired dinner beginning at 7:30 p.m.

As the summer entertainment season moves into full swing, The Oakroom brings back its popular “Cooked on Jazz” summer concert series featuring local musical talent accompanied by the culinary talents of the Five-Diamond staff.

Beginning on Thursday, July 7 and continuing every Thursday through July 28, the Oakroom series will offer a medley of food, wine and music inside the historic hotel. Each session includes a cooking demonstration, themed three-course dinner with wine pairings, music show and complimentary valet parking for $75 per person (plus tax and gratuity).

Ode to the State Fair

The Kentucky State Fair just celebrated its 100th anniversary last summer. To honor our shared anniversaries, The Oakroom culinary team is offering their spin on your favorite fair-time treats. The special menu, aptly titled “Ode to the Kentucky State Fair,” will include the chef’s gourmet renditions of items such as mint julep snow cones, lobster corndogs, funnel cakes with cotton candy ice cream and much more. Available August 15th-17th the fanciful menu will run just before the start of the Kentucky State Fair. The three-course menu is just $35 per person (plus tax and gratuity).
