Crosskate Inc. is unleashing its new 616 Backcountry skates that use patent pending technology to bring outdoor enthusiasts a new level of fun and fitness. Crosskate 616 Backcountry skates combine unique features that allow people to skate rough terrain, climb up hills, negotiate turns with the agility of downhill skiing and brake with the control of mountain biking. They provide athletes with the fitness benefits of cross-country skiing and the fun of carving downhill turns. For the first time, skiers, backpackers, runners, skaters and cyclists can skate or ski their favorite trails all year.
Key functionality of the Crosskate 616 model includes several important features. Rugged 10” air-filled mountain bike style tires handle very rough terrain including rocks and roots. A unique PowerCarve steering system allows users to carve turns as they lean, similar to using shape skis on snow. On rolling and uphill terrain, Crosskate Backcountry skates can be used to skate or diagonal stride like cross-country skiing. The combination of these two motions allows the user to access a wide range of terrain including fire roads and challenging singletrack. A one-way rolling system combined with a boot that pivots forward like cross-country skis makes it possible to ascend almost any hill. Downhill trails are easily negotiated with the combination of a long, stable wheelbase and powerful disc brakes. Crosskate Backcountry skates provide the fitness benefits of the cross-country skiing motion that has been called the ultimate workout. This makes for an exciting, low-impact cross training experience in the back country and downhill thrills at ski resorts.
Crosskate was founded in 1998 when James Page (BS, ME, MIT and MS, ME Stanford) left his successful design consulting firm in California to pursue his vision of creating a new category in the outdoor sporting goods industry. The Crosskate team now brings together a multitude of hardcore skiers, mountain bikers, engineers, designers and business professionals.
