Nikon Introduces N55 35mm SLR Camera
The New N55 Compact, Lightweight Autofocus SLR Offers High-Performance
Capability in an Easy-to-Use Package
Jan. 15 /PRNewswire/ -- Nikon (http://www.nikonusa.com),
the world leader in photography, today introduced the N55 35mm autofocus SLR
camera, integrating Nikon's proven features and exclusive technologies in a
compact, lightweight and easy to use design. Developed with the amateur
photographers and first-time SLR users in mind, the N55 combines simple design
and functionality with superior SLR image quality and performance, resulting
in an easy-to-operate, feature-packed SLR camera for anyone who wants to
easily take high-quality pictures.
The N55 incorporates a host of intelligent features including a razor-sharp autofocus system, a wide range of exposure modes, advanced light metering systems with 3D matrix metering, and the added convenience of an automatic built-in speedlight. For the more adventurous user, the N55 also includes exposure control functions like auto exposure bracketing, exposure compensation and multiple exposure, giving budding photographers and first-time SLR users all the tools they need to fully discover their creative potential.
"Nikon's N55 opens up new avenues for amateur photographers and first-time SLR users by giving them a superb selection of some of Nikon's best known and most popular features, all in a compact, intuitively designed camera that offers point-and-shoot simplicity and produces stunning, SLR quality images," said Richard LoPinto, vice president, SLR Camera Systems, Nikon Inc.
Intelligent Design For Easy Operation
The N55's design enables amateur photographers and first time SLR users to effortlessly produce sophisticated photographic effects. The AUTO mode gives users point-and-shoot simplicity while producing SLR quality images. The camera features Vari-Program modes that fine-tune the camera's performance for specific scenes and subjects, and a large LCD panel with easy-to-read characters simplifies mode selection and monitoring. The built-in speedlight pops up automatically when shooting in low light conditions or photographing backlit subjects, ensuring a consistent and accurate exposure.
Three-Area Autofocus System
Equipped with a balance of accuracy, speed and control, the N55's new Three-Area Autofocus system provides versatile control of focusing in various situations. The camera automatically detects whether a subject is stationary or moving, based on directional information, and activates Focus Tracking with Nikon's advanced Lock-On(TM) technology to keep a fast-moving subject in continuous focus. Its three autofocus area sensors give users wide, horizontal coverage and allow for quick and accurate focusing of fast-moving subjects, as well as off-center compositions and wide scenic landscapes.
3D Matrix Metering
The N55 inherits Nikon's sophisticated 3D Matrix metering system and ensures accurate exposures under diverse situations. To accurately determine the ideal exposure, the N55 uses three types of data -- scene brightness, scene contrast and subject distance. After analyzing this data, the camera chooses the precise combination of shutter speed and aperture to achieve a balanced exposure. Additionally, the camera also offers Five-Segment Matrix Metering and Center Partial Metering for greater manual control in specific situations.
Matrix Balanced Fill-Flash
The N55 features a compact, powerful built-in speedlight that works seamlessly with the camera's exposure control and metering system. It delivers precise amounts of light, based on the subject's distance from the camera and the overall scene brightness and contrast, to attain an accurate exposure. The built-in speedlight pops up automatically when shooting in low light conditions and is especially useful when photographing backlit subjects. The flash is automatically blended with the scene's natural light creating vivid, balanced exposures.
The Nikon N55's F Lens Mount makes it compatible with more than 40 superior AF Nikkor lenses, opening the door for up-and-coming photographers and first-time SLR users to an abundance of creative options and possibilities. The Nikon N55 will be available in retail stores in Spring, 2002.
