Nikon Expands Award-Winning Product Line-Up

February 21, 2002 - Nikon, the world leader in photography, introduces more “firsts” today with the announcement of nine new products including the highly anticipated D100 digital SLR camera, Nikon’s first digital camera featuring 6.1 effective megapixels with an extensive feature-set consistent with Nikon's other digital SLRs; and its new twist on photography, the Coolpix 2500, a two-megapixel digital camera that features the world’s first inner-swivel lens. “Today’s new product introductions mark the beginning of a great year for Nikon,” said Anna Marie Bakker, general manager, Communications for Nikon Inc. “The D100 SLR digital camera is a great innovation in Nikon photographic technology. We have created a camera that has all of the features of the D1 series and made it accessible to a whole new level of photographers who want to go digital.

With the Coolpix 2500, consumers get an ultra-cool pocket-sized digital camera featuring the world’s first inner-swivel lens, and with the One-Touch Upload button located directly on the camera, users can quickly and easily upload pictures to the computer or web. The D100 and Coolpix 2500, along with Nikon’s new point-and-shoot cameras, speedlights and lenses create an exciting product line-up that demonstrate Nikon’s commitment to all photographers to provide the most advanced, highest quality products,” Bakker added.

Nikon’s new product announcements include:
  • the D100, high-performance, 6.1 effective megapixel camera that provides a unique combination of advanced SLR functionality and powerful digital capabilities that deliver high-quality images. Designed for high-end amateur photographers and photo enthusiasts, as well as a wide range of business applications, to make digital SLR photography more accessible with Nikon’s exclusive advanced capabilities, intuitive ergonomics and powerful feature set;


  • the Coolpix 2500, a stylish pocket-sized 2.0 million effective pixel digital camera featuring the world’s first inner-swivel lens design. This inner-swivel lens makes shooting from various angles -- including a 180-degree flip for self-portraits -- easy and fun, while providing protection for the lens when not in use. The slim and stylishly compact design features Nikon’s built-in One-Touch Upload button to easily transfer images to the computer or web;


  • the Lite-Touch Zoom 130 ED/QD, the world’s smallest and lightest 3.4x zoom compact camera with a sliding lens cover;


  • the One-Touch Zoom 90s/QD, a stylish 2.4x zoom compact camera featuring superior photographic technology with easy-to-use features;


  • the SB-80DX Speedlight, a speedlight with an innovative design, high-performance and system-wide versatility and wide-angle capabilities;


  • the SB-30 Speedlight, offers the benefits of a high-performance Nikon speedlight in a compact, lightweight and easy-to-use design;


  • the AF-S Zoom-Nikkor 24-85mm f/3.5-4.5G ED-IF Lens, an ultra-compact, lightweight, multi-purpose lens featuring Nikon's exclusive Silent Wave Motor technology;


  • the AF Nikkor 50mm f/1.8D Lens, incorporates Nikon's D-signal technology that provides Nikon cameras with distance information for accurate flash and ambient light exposures;
