Nextel Introduces the Motorola i2000plus Internet-Capable Phone
RESTON, Va., and SCHAUMBURG, Ill., Feb. 1 -- Nextel today announced the introduction of the i2000plus Internet-capable phone, manufactured by Motorola.
The i2000plus offers Nextel Worldwide service -- allowing customers to make and receive wireless calls throughout Africa, Australia, Asia, Europe, Middle East and North and South America on an all-digital wireless network. Nextel Worldwide service provides the most digital coverage in South America and is the only world phone with digital coverage in Brazil, Peru, Argentina and Mexico. The service also covers Asia and Europe. In North America, Nextel's iDEN(R) network delivers coverage in major cities in Canada, as well as in 178 of the top 200 markets in the United States.
With the newly added benefit of Nextel Wireless Web service (formerly Nextel Online) in the U.S., international travelers can prepare for business trips abroad through their wireless Internet connection on the i2000plus phone. Through travel-related sites such as Travelocity, Expedia, Go2Travel, and Zagat Dining, international travelers can be prepared for virtually all situations prior to their international departure, from checking flight schedules and flight information to locating hotels and restaurants in upcoming destinations.
"The i2000plus phone is currently one of the most advanced handsets in the market supporting Nextel's nationwide packet-data network and roaming to more than 75 countries worldwide," said Mark Schweitzer, vice president of marketing for Nextel. "With just one phone and one number and one bill using 100 percent digital technology, customers can communicate instantly, easily, and cost-effectively when traveling abroad."
Nextel Worldwide service offers callers simplified flat rate per minute pricing based on the country from which they are calling. Rates range from $0.99 for most of Europe and $1.99 per minute for Asia. Please go to http://www.nextel.com for rates for other countries and for Nextel Wireless web pricing.
The i2000plus is the only dual mode iDEN/GSM 100 percent digital cellular phone. The phone offers all of the advanced features that only Nextel phones deliver including: Nextel Direct Connect, Nextel's digital two-way radio feature; built-in speaker phone for hands-free conference calling; Text & Numeric Messaging; Caller ID; voicemail; Turbo Dial -- one-touch dialing for eight preprogrammed numbers; Quickstore, which instantly adds phone numbers and private IDs to a personal directory; last 10 numbers received/sent list; a missed call indicator; 3-Way Calling; and VibraCall silent notification, which, with the i2000plus, can be activated at the touch of a button. The i2000plus phone also displays multiple languages -- users can choose among English, Spanish, Portuguese, French, German, Italian, Dutch and Danish menus.
The i2000plus also features 'Plus Dialing,' which allows Nextel customers to call other countries without needing to know the international access code. Calling overseas is as easy as making a local phone call.
"We are excited about the addition of Internet capabilities to this popular world phone," said Peter Aloumanis, director of U.S. market operations, Motorola's iDEN subscriber group. "It keeps users in touch with people and information by enabling access to two different types of digital wireless networks in addition to the 'always connected' Internet access to the Nextel National Network."
Nextel Worldwide customers have access to customer care at any time and any day of the week. If customers have questions regarding service, they can simply dial customer care from their Nextel phone. The call is free of charge anywhere in the world.
