New Vornado Portable Heaters

Vornado January 14, 2002/PR Newswire-- Digital technology and engineering improvements cozy up in style in the form of two striking new whole room space heaters from Vornado Air Circulation Systems, Inc., a leader in home air comfort products. Long lauded by consumers and consumer guides alike (including a ranking by Good Housekeeping magazine as "Best All Around Heater") for its home comfort products, Vornado now ups the ante with two new portable heater offerings; the DVH™ (a digital vortex heat circulator with automatic adjustable heat output) and the VH2™ (with a tighter grill and inlet spacing design to maximize vortex heat generation and clean graphics for up-to-the-minute performance and style). Both new heaters are considered evolutionary in Vornado's long history of developing groundbreaking engineering and design standards.

Vornado DVHVornado's DVH™ builds on the intelligence standard set with its earlier IntelliTEMP® model. Dressed in a black tone with red and gold graphic and fronted with Vornado's hallmark swirled front grill, the DVH™ is not just another pretty face. An accessible top-mounted control panel houses a LCD readout display featuring large, at-a-glance numbers and three LED lights that track temperature modes and power.

"When you talk about a Vornado heater, we design around performance, not around gimmicks that don't do anything about function," says Glen Ediger, senior product designer of the DVH™. "When we tested the Vornado DVH™, for example, we found that the straightforward design of the control panel made operation intuitive - you don't have to have an owner's manual to enjoy premium performance even with the technological advances."

Ediger notes evolutionary changes now standard in the Vornado DVH™ translate to a higher air velocity performance that means a better heat distribution into the room, coupled with even quieter performance.

Vornado's DVH™ (MSRP $110) is considered a superior quality room heater with premium use and safety settings included as standard features. Outfitted in striking black, the DVH™ works according to the whim of the user. From the all-in-one control panel, setting modes are immediately accessible; a set temperature permits the user to actually choose the room temperature they desire; a room temperature mode displays actual room temperature; and three heat settings (fan only, low and high) provide multiple options. Two temperature arrows make it simple to set the temperature up or down with one motion.

Operation is hassle-free: simply set the temperature to a desired setting and the room fills with warmth. Once the temperature is set, the Vornado DVH™ begins to raise all room air to the selected setting. When that temperature setting is reached, the heater automatically lowers heat output and fan speed to precisely maintain that temperature. If the temperature in the room goes down, the speed and heat go back up - all with whisper-quiet operation. Heat output is automatic and continuous so a user won't notice annoying on/off, too hot/too cold cycles typical of most other space heaters.

Vornado VH2The light, portable VH2™ (MSRP $80), packaged in a softly contoured shape and colored in a sophisticated whitestone hue, is also premised, like the companion Vornado DVH™, on the perfected vortex technology that circulates the heat throughout a room. Known as the company that created and perfected vortex action, Vornado uses the same engineering principles to deliver blanketing gentle whole room heat.

A straightforward control panel on the VH2™ complements the stylish compact grill front and casing made with easy portability in mind. The easy-reach, top-mounted panel is centered on four smart button controls: variable heat setting, which gives a wide range of temperature settings; fan control, which provides dual function (variable or constant) speeds; heat control which generates variable heat output up to a maximum of 750 or 1,500 watts and an ergonomically-designed lighted switch which provides at-a-glance confirmation of power. "When you're cold, you want immediate warmth. But the blast of heat typical of many rickety-rackety space heaters target a very small, space heater-sized area. The new Vornado DVH™ and the companion VH2™ heaters actually circulate warm air in a room better and farther - benefiting everyone in the room," says Victoria Caler, brand manager, Vornado.

"Those who want to be comfortable may want warmth beyond a blast of heat to their fingers or toes. We designed the Vornado whole room heaters with a whole person - and a whole room in mind.

Unlike conventional space heaters that merely blow or release heated air in a direct front path that benefits only the person sitting in front of it, the unique aerodynamic features of the whisper-quiet Vornado VH2™ and DVH™ whole room heaters take on most any room, from dining rooms to dens, living rooms to offices. What's more, heating only the room occupied will allow the consumer to lower their thermostat, saving money on gas bills.

Working in conjunction with other heating sources, or alone, air first travels into the back of the heater and is taken in through dual air inlets, which takes in volumes of air for maximum performance. As the air's velocity increases, the outgoing air is projected further into the room by the AirTensity® Grill which creates a focused beam of air continuously directed to the opposite wall -- and then flowing back to the heater. With multiple temperature settings, this advanced heat circulating system creates a blanket-warm, whisper-quiet environment.

"And with that warmth and quietness, you want safety and peace of mind," added Caler. "As parents, homeowners and pet owners ourselves, we dedicated our engineering to offering a variety of family-friendly safety features - coupled with the simple goal of ensuring comfort you can rely on from one chilly day to the next. Safety and security are priority."

On the safety side, the Vornado DVH™ and VH2™ deliver on three key fronts: first, blocked airflow protection safeguards the heaters against tipping over, or if the grill becomes covered with material such as curtains, clothes, or blankets; second, a cool touch cabinet and grill make the heaters better suited to human and pet traffic; and third, the manual reset over-heat thermal breaker with backup fuse controls over-heating common to ordinary space heaters. Other safety features include a maximum exit air temperature of 120-130 degrees Fahrenheit, a comfort-zone temperature that is not hot enough to burn skin; a non-glowing heat element mounted to non-flammable mica; and a new, redesigned tighter grill spacing discourages wandering fingers and fabrics.

The Vornado DVH™ and VH2™ (at select locations now) will be available nationwide winter 2002. To locate the nearest retail location, or for more information, please call toll-free, +1 800-234-0604, or visit the Vornado website at http://www.vornado.com/.
