New Version of Kodak Picture CD Makes Sharing Pictures Easier

June 4 — Eastman Kodak Company announced today the immediate availability of the Kodak Picture CD version 5.1, which features simpler and easier ways for consumers who prefer to use film to share everyday moments through e-mail. The most significant new features include an improved e-mail address book that delivers greater ability to share pictures with many at the same time. In addition, consumers can now send multiple pictures within a single e-mail. According to a recent consumer survey conducted by Kodak and ICR, an independent research company, only 20 percent of consumers strongly agreed that it is easy to send pictures via e-mail. Fifty-four percent indicated that sharing photographs via e-mail would be easier if less expensive technology were available. Of those surveyed, 68 percent have never sent pictures through e-mail.

“The new Kodak Picture CD improves the total picture-sharing experience for those consumers who prefer film by giving them all the added benefits of digital imaging without changing their current picture-taking behavior. For example, with the new Picture CD, it is easier than ever to e-mail pictures to multiple people at the same time,” said Eric Lent, marketing director, Digital Services and Youth Marketing, Consumer Imaging, Eastman Kodak Company.

The new Kodak Picture CD provides a simple entry into e-mailing pictures. It expands the benefits of film and makes digital easier by offering consumers more choices for sharing. By simply checking the box when dropping off film for processing, consumers can receive their prints plus a Kodak Picture CD containing their pictures and all the software they will need for easy sharing.

The new Kodak Picture CD offers the following advantages of digital imaging:
  • View a quick tour that shows consumers the great features of Kodak Picture CD
  • Send favorite pictures as an e-mail attachment to family and friends quickly and easily with the new address book
  • Combine a picture and text to create a Picture Postcard
  • Create a slide show that chronicles an event and share via the Kodak Picture Road Show
  • Order additional Kodak prints & enlargements of favorite pictures through Kodak Picture Center Online and have them sent directly to family and friends or to your home
  • Make pictures even better through enhancement functions that can remove red eye, crop a picture, apply a fun effect or add a caption
  • Use an improved consumer interface complete with easy-to-understand command icons and pull-down menus

Sharing expert and “Super Mom” author of When Words Matter Most Robyn Freedman Spizman recognizes the need for quick and easy sharing solutions: “Parents are constantly looking for solutions that will not only help them share their favorite special occasions like a birthday or graduation, but also those solutions that will help them share everyday moments. Sharing pictures through e-mail can be a one-click way to help friends and family feel connected.”
