New Portable Timer Gives New Dimension To Disposable Cameras

August 2003 - The Photo Marketing Association estimates that almost 220 million single use cameras will be sold this year in the U.S. alone. Despite their cost-effectiveness and convenience, a drawback to most disposable cameras is that they don't have timers like more expensive cameras to allow for timed-release photos - that is until now.

The Picture Yourself tripod and camera timer allows single-use disposable camera users an easy, inexpensive and lightweight way to set-up and take photographs without leaving someone out of the picture to click the button. The Picture Yourself attaches to any single-use disposable camera and provides a 12 second countdown before the picture is taken. It weighs just 4 ounces, has a self-release timer similar to expensive brand cameras but requires no batteries. The Picture Yourself tripod has detachable, bendable legs to help take photos on uneven terrain.

"Picture Yourself was designed for the affordable camera market," says inventor Greg Joy of Joy Innovations. "Single use cameras and point and shoot cameras are one of the few growing areas of the camera/film market. Picture Yourself provides an affordable manner for buyers of these low cost cameras to still have some of the higher end camera features." Picture Yourself works with more than just single use cameras. The product also works with "point and shoot" and 110 cameras -- even digital cameras that don't have timers are applicable.

The idea for the product came when Picture Yourself inventor Greg Joy was attending a camping expedition in the southern part of Utah. "I wanted to document a few accomplishments with a single use camera I had with me," says Joy. "It became quite apparent that there was no way I was going to have a decently framed picture with me in it. Sure I could do the old stretch out the arm and take a shot, but usually those aren't the shots you put into the photo album. So I began to sketch ideas on how I could get a timer/tripod for single use cameras and that lead to the Picture Yourself development."

Picture Yourself sells for $9.95 plus S&H and can be ordered online at: www.JoyInovations.com
