New IBM Monitor Offers Flat Screen at Curved Screen Price
For customers looking for the crystal-clear image of a flat screen at an affordable price, IBM will offer a sub-$300 flat-screened Cathode Ray Tube (CRT) monitor that produces a truly accurate image without glare or distortion at the edges. Targeted at budget-conscious consumers and companies who use typical business applications such as word processing, graphics and spreadsheets, IBM's flat-screened CRT monitor will be priced under $300.
IBM is also adding two new LCD (Liquid Crystal Display) to its family of flat panel monitors. For customers who want monitors with the flexibility to switch from analog to digital output, the T54H is a 15-inch hybrid model that can be attached to a system using either analog or digital connections. The monitor is compatible with standard analog video cards and video cards that are compliant with Digital Visual Interface (DVI) connectors. In addition, IBM is announcing the T86D, an 18-inch monitor that offers digital connection to customers via DVI.
"Flat screened CRT monitors will become the industry standard, replacing the current curved-screened version," said Doug Jamison, Brand Manager, IBM Visual Products. "There are many customers from small businesses to large enterprises who want the advantages of flat-screened viewing at a very low cost, so for them, this new, improved generation of CRTs will be ideal."
17-Inch Flat Screen Shadow Mask CRT
IBM is bringing the beauty of flat-screened images to CRT customers with the IBM G78 17-inch Flat Screen Shadow Mask CRT. With its "flat shadow mask" technology, the IBM G78 has a flat screen and delivers truly accurate images throughout the entire viewing area. Targeted at general business application users, the color monitor features a 16.0-inch viewable image size. A maximum horizontal frequency of 85 kHz for flicker-free operation delivers an optimum resolution of 1280 X 1024 pixels, with a maximum addressibilty of 1600 X 1200 pixels. Available in pearl white and stealth black, the IBM G78 17-inch monitor is currently available for $299.
Hybrid TFT Flat Panel Monitor: Flexibility for Analog and Digital Connections
IBM's 15-inch T54 TFT monitor now comes in a "hybrid" version that can be connected to computers using an analog or Digital Visual Interface (DVI) connector. The IBM T54H 15-inch Flat Panel Monitor delivers a bright, flicker-free 15.1-inch viewable image with low reflectivity and a resolution up to 1024 x 768 pixels. The space-saving design of the IBM T54H includes a tilt stand for angling the monitor for better viewing comfort , and is ideal for displaying general business applications including word processing, business graphics and basic spreadsheets. Lockable image controls help to prevent accidental changes and a simplified on-screen display is available in multiple languages. The IBM T54H is currently available in pearl white or stealth black for $1,129. Customers can free up even more deskspace by mounting IBM Flat Panel Monitors to office furniture and walls by using the IBM Radial Arm, available for $169.
High-Performance Digital 18-Inch TFT Flat Panel Monitor
For high-performance users, IBM has designed a digital version of its 18-inch IBM T86 TFT Flat Panel Monitor, used for specialized applications such as complex and over-sized spreadsheets and advanced graphic applications such as desktop publishing, medical and scientific imaging. The IBM T86D Flat Panel Monitor, which can be connected via a Digital Visual Interface (DVI) connector, provides a flicker-free SXGA image with an exceptionally wide viewing area. It is designed for advanced users that need superior display characteristics in a flexible and stylish, space-saving size. Using the bundled Pivot Software, the monitor and the image can rotate to either landscape or portrait screen positions to view an 8.5- x 11-inch document or most Web pages in full screen. An improved detachable base allows user to lift, tilt, rotate the monitor for greater viewing comfort and work layout. As a result of reducing the bezel width by 40 percent, the IBM T86D is ideal for those customers installing larger flat panel monitors for dual-monitor applications in space-constrained environments. With a 18.1-inch viewable image size, the T86D offers flicker free images with a resolution up to 1280 x 1024 pixels. The IBM T86D 18-inch flat panel monitor is currently available in pearl white and stealth black for $3,099.
New Low Cost CRT for Small Business
IBM also unveiled today its new E51 15-inch CRT Monitor for home office and small businesses delivers excellent performance and reliability at a low price. It has a 13.8-inch viewable image size and a .28 mm dot pitch. A maximum horizontal frequency of 54 kHz permits a top flicker-free resolution mode of 800 X 600 pixels at a refresh rate of 85 Hz, with a maximum addressibility of 1024 X 768 pixels. Offered in pearl white, the IBM E51 15-inch monitor will become available on August 30 for $159.
