New Epson Stylus CX5400 Scan-Print-Copy Device
Sept. 15, 2003 -- Epson has once again combined the forces of its acclaimed DuraBrite inks and the company's award-winning scanning technology - this time to create the ideal home/office product, the EPSON Stylus CX5400. This new space-saving device triples as a scanner, printer and color copier, offering a high-end combination of features and performance including Epson's new photo restoration technology on the scanner.
"This truly is an outstanding value for those who appreciate high productivity and great image quality," said Andreas Goehring, senior product manager, Epson. "Not only does this product fulfill nearly all the demands of their text, graphics and copying needs, but it can also produce very good photo-quality images that last for years."
Priced for only $149 (suggested retail price), the EPSON Stylus CX5400 prints documents and text quickly, up to 22 pages per minute (ppm) in black and up to 11 ppm in color* It also operates more quietly from start to finish than its predecessor, the EPSON Stylus CX5200, resulting from a newly designed engine and mechanism.
The Stylus CX5400 offers frame-ready, borderless photographs and up to 5,760 x 1,440 optimized dpi and ultrafine three-picoliter ink droplets for sharp, vivid images. It also takes advantage of a convenient and cost-effective individual ink cartridge system.
Scanning, Photo Restoration and PC-Free Color Copying
In addition to high-speed color printing, the Stylus CX5400 features a
stand-alone color copier and high-performance, full-function scanner.
This
built-in 1200 x 2400, 48-bit color scanner includes exclusive EPSON
Easy
Photo Fix(tm) software, which gives users an easy solution for
restoring
color to old photographs. The Stylus CX5400 also delivers fully
automated
scanning plus two advanced scanning modes for advanced custom control.
New EPSON Smart Panel software enables users to quickly scan photos, text or graphics with extreme detail to the Internet, an e-mail software program or a faxing software program. Users can also produce long-lasting, high-resolution color copies without even turning on their personal computer.
DuraBrite Inks - Water, Smudge and Light Resistance
The EPSON Stylus CX5400 uses DuraBrite inks for natural,
vibrant-looking
colors and is designed to produce impressive looking, durable output
that is
water-resistant, light-resistant and smudge-resistant. Because
DuraBrite
inks are pigment-based inks, output from DuraBrite inks can be
submerged in
water without the ink coming off the page, unlike dye-based inks, which
typically run and smudge. This feature is designed to give creators of
photographs, fliers, menus, signs, postcards and any other printed
output
the ability to produce documents and images that will withstand damage
caused by moisture-based threats such as rain, spills, humidity or
people
with wet hands. Bleed-through is also reduced since DuraBrite inks
rest on
the surface of the paper, which is ideal for applications that require
double-sided printing.
Media Flexibility and New DuraBrite Ink Glossy Photo Paper
The EPSON Stylus CX5400 offers great results on different types of
media
ranging from ordinary plain paper to DuraBrite Ink Glossy Photo Paper,
the
newest paper to join the wide assortment of Epson media. This new
paper was
designed especially for use with DuraBrite ink to create bright,
beautiful,
borderless glossy prints that are water-resistant, light-resistant and
smudge-resistant. DuraBrite Ink Glossy Photo paper will be available
in two
popular sizes - 4" x 6" (50 sheet packs) and letter size (20 sheet
packs) -
for $9.99 and $12.99, respectively, and will be available at the end of
September. This new all-in-one also supports a variety of other Epson
specialty media including Epson Premium Bright White Paper, Glossy
Photo
Paper, Matte Paper Heavyweight, and Ink Jet Transparencies.
Individual Ink Cartridges
The EPSON Stylus CX5400 includes four separate "snap-in/snap-out" ink
cartridges to maximize ink yield - one extra-large black ink cartridge
and
three color ink cartridges (cyan, yellow and magenta). Since these
individual color inks can be replaced at any time, efficiency is
maximized,
lowering the total cost of ownership. Each cartridge also contains a
chip
that relays ink level information on the screen to the user via the
printer
driver, while self-sealing valves preserve the inks up to six months
once
removed from the printer. Therefore, reinserted cartridges that
haven't
been fully depleted can be reinserted for later use.
The EPSON Stylus CX5400 works with both Windows and Macintosh platforms and is capable of large-quantity printing when needed. The printer's paper input tray holds up to 150 sheets of plain paper. It uses USB connectivity and includes a USB cable in the box.
