New Bagless Cyclonic Vacuum Cleaners

January, 2002 -- Sharp Electronics Corporation introduces a new, dramatically designed upright vacuum cleaner line with versatility enabling it to clean both hard floors and deep rugs with equal efficiency, high-performance and power. Aside from the new line's adaptability, the new EC-S5170 and EC-T5180 models are substantially lighter and quieter than comparable vacuum cleaners, ensuring that consumers can clean their floors with relative ease. "We've noticed a growing trend among homeowners shifting from carpeting to hard floors in their homes. These new upright vacuum cleaners have been designed to function effectively on both surfaces," said Terri Siebert, associate director of marketing, Sharp Electronics Corporation. "In addition, the new cyclonic vacuums are easy to use, extremely lightweight and incorporate a unique high-tech, high-style blue and white design that we think will be appreciated by consumers."

Thanks to two suction ports located at the base of these new vacuums, the suction power is remarkable, while the unit maintains a surprising light weight of approximately 15 pounds. In addition, the EC-T5180 model utilizes a Twin Energy™ fan motor that provides even greater suction to lift out embedded dirt and debris. The line's cyclonic technology then centralizes the trapped dirt into a removable canister that can be easily detached and cleaned, saving the consumer from having to constantly change vacuum bags.

Sharp's new EC-T5180 model features a true HEPA filter that captures 99.97 percent of all particles as small as 0.3 microns, while the EC-S5170 model provides a six-stage filtration system with a HEPA-type filter that captures 99 percent of fine dust and pollen particles down to five microns in size. Model EC-T5180 also includes variable power control, which adjusts the power to optimum level for cleaning draperies, upholstery and area rugs. A 35-foot power cord is included on the EC-T5180 only, allowing the vacuum to be easily moved around the room.

Both the EC-S5170 and the EC-S5180 feature the following:
  • Sharp's exclusive Library Quiet™ technology, which makes them up to 15 percent quieter than comparable vacuums.
  • Rug/Floor selector switch that allows the user to turn off the agitator and easily move from carpeted areas to bare floors
  • Automatic nozzle height adjustment for those hard-to-reach spaces
  • Full time on-board tools including two extension wands, crevice tool and upholstery brush

Sharp's EC-S5170 and EC-T5180 upright vacuum cleaners will be available in February at a suggested retail price of $249.95 for the EC-S5170 and $299.95 for the EC-T5180.
