MySpace Launches New Toolbar Product

December 10, 2008 -- MySpace, the world’s premier social network, today announced the launch of MySpace Toolbar, a new internally developed product that will give MySpace users activity notifications during their Web browsing experience. Beginning today, MySpace users will be able to install the Toolbar by going to www.myspace.com/toolbar, and immediately begin receiving real time alerts and notifications including New Friend Requests, Messages, Comments, and Friend Updates. The new Toolbar product allows the community constant connectivity with their MySpace experience wherever they travel online.

The MySpace Toolbar will run inside the browser at launch on a PC running Internet Explorer 6.0 or higher or Firefox 2.0 or higher. MySpace will have a version for Mac users in the near future.

Toolbar features include:

  • Auto Login — Automatically link to MySpace without entering your email and password
  • Always On — No need to refresh the browser for updates
  • Alerts — New Messages, New Comments, New Friend Requests etc.
  • Friend Activity Updates
  • Update My Mood and Status
  • See Friends’ Mood and Status
  • MySpace Search Powered by Google — Search the Web, People, and MySpace

“We believe strongly in our core technical foundation at MySpace and we’re building internal products based on the same technology that we’re developing in concert with the community,” said Amit Kapur, COO of MySpace. “The use of OAuth here is an innovative extension of our MySpace Open Platform technology and we’re thrilled to see this come to life with the launch of the MySpace Toolbar.”

The MySpace Toolbar will be immediately available to all users in the United States, United Kingdom, Australia, Canada, New Zealand, India, and Ireland.

Another MySpace Toolbar

There are a number of mature toolbars already out there like Ultimate MySpace Toolbar that have the more functionality like the "Simplify" button that cleans up messy profiles. Check it: http://www.ultimatemyspacetoolbar.com

Thanks Courtney. I'll check

Thanks Courtney. I'll check that out. I sure like the idea of the "Simplify" button to clean up some of the trash in people's profiles.
