Motorola Introduces New 5.8 GHz Cordless Phones

Aug. 26 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Motorola today announced the newest additions to its cordless phone portfolio -- the MD600 Series. Motorola's latest line of digital cordless phones, expected to be available this October, offer consumers a combination of dependability, ease-of-use and a stylish design, without the cluttered communication waves experienced today with 49MHz, 900MHz or 2.4MHz phone systems.

Following in the Motorola tradition of advanced communication capabilities, the new 5.8 GHz phone series offers digital cordless technology, providing less interference, clearer sound and improved security while the user talks around the house or out into the yard.

"The 900 MHz and 2.4 GHz spectrum is becoming more crowded with so many new household items running on those frequencies, we wanted to offer our customers a phone with the potential for less interference," said Cortlandt Minnich, Category Manager - Cordless Telephony, Consumer Products Division, Motorola. "This new Motorola cordless phone operates at 5.8 GHz using Frequency Hopping Spread Spectrum (FHSS) to separate from other signals. Because this expandable system can support intercom, transfer features and two handsets participating in the same call, at the same time, it's the perfect way to keep busy families connected."

Handset expandability is a key feature for the MD600 Series, which can accommodate up to six handsets from a single base connected to the phone line. Standard Motorola features include; non-slip rubberized grips, a durable housing and a straightforward menu structure to ensure that this high tech phone is still easy to operate.

The MD600 Series features a sleek, new design with a flat, light handset equipped with a unique battery design to give it a comfortable hold; blue LEDs on the handset and base displays; plus a blue-lighted speaker indicating an incoming call or a functioning speaker phone. The MD671 and MD681 models feature a base with keypad, speakerphone, and Caller ID display, with the MD681 model also incorporating an answering machine.

Additional capabilities of the Motorola MD600 Series include room-to-room calling via a built-in intercom, and two handsets can participate on the same call. The VibraCall alert is a quiet, vibrating alert to notify users of an incoming call when a quiet environment is desired, or in loud surroundings. With eight selectable ring tones, 50 private phone book memory locations (plus the option to store Caller ID* entries directly into the phonebook), the series can be personalized to fit every user's need.

The MSRP for the Motorola MD600 Series cordless telephones ranges from $79.99 for an accessory handset to $179.99 for the top of the line MD681, and the series can be purchased at retailers including Circuit City, Target, Office Max and Comp USA. The MD600 Series will also be available directly from Motorola at www.motorola.com/cordless .
