Maxtor's New Storage Solution Meets Demands for Hot Consumer Applications
"With incredible and easy-to-use applications such as iMovie, iTunes and iDVD, the Macintosh platform is the ideal hub for today's digital lifestyle," said Ron Okamoto, Apple's vice president of Worldwide Developer Relations. "Maxtor's new powerful FireWire-based storage solution provides a great way for customers to easily store and quickly access hours of their favorite digital video and music."
Maxtor Personal Storage 3000DV's enhanced electronics, combined with its 7200 RPM speed, make it more than 56 percent faster than the company's previous generation of external storage devices. In Winbench testing, the 3000DV scored two-to-four times higher than internal laptop hard drives and is up to 15 percent faster than an internal desktop 5400 RPM ATA 100 disk drive.
"The popularity of digital video and gaming has increased the need for high-performance personal storage," said Tex Schenkkan, senior vice president, consumer electronics and business development at Maxtor. "As a result, we have developed our new Personal Storage device as an easy way to add storage that is fast enough to keep up with users' computing needs."
The 3000DV is the latest addition to Maxtor's family of Personal Storage solutions. Up to 62 Maxtor Personal Storage devices can connect to a single 1394 port for virtually unlimited storage. With 60GB of capacity, each 3000DV can store up to:
- 15,000 4-minute MP3 tunes
- 6,000 high-resolution digital photos (3.3M pixels)
- 60 hours of compressed digital video or 4.5 hours of uncompressed digital video
- 1,500 video games (400MB each)
To complement the 3000DV, Maxtor offers a PCI Adapter Card and CardBus as accessories to enable connections to desktop and laptop computers that are not equipped with a 1394 port.
