Mad Catz Introduces New Lynx Wireless Controller for Playstation 2

Mad Catz ControllerJuly 10, 2002--Mad Catz today announced the launch of its Lynx wireless controllers, commencing with the Lynx wireless controller for PlayStation 2 (also compatible with PlayStation and PS one).

This product will be available for $39.99 in stores throughout the U.S. beginning August 2002. It is anticipated that a Lynx wireless controller for Xbox will available by October 2002.

"Based upon the tremendous success of Mad Catz' 900MHz wireless controller for PlayStation 2, we have developed the next generation of wireless controllers," said Darren Richardson, President and COO of Mad Catz, Inc. "The surge in multiplayer videogames, including games that allow eight people to play at once, has created an even greater need to solve the mess of tangled wires and crowding in front of the television.

With the Lynx wireless controllers, Mad Catz has developed an easy solution for gamers who want consistent, continuous play without being restricted by cables."

Whereas earlier wireless controllers utilized infrared technology, Mad Catz' wireless controllers feature state-of-the-art unblockable radio frequency (RF) technology comparable to high-end cordless phones. This RF technology provides gamers with complete freedom of movement by allowing a wireless range of up to 40 feet from the console and television. In addition, the Lynx wireless controllers do not rely on line-of-sight, so that if the controllers are pointed away from the console, or if the signal is blocked by a person walking in front of it, the game will not pause. Both the Lynx wireless controller for PlayStation 2 and Xbox require three AA batteries for up to 50 hours of continuous game play.

Additionally, unlike other wireless controllers, up to eight Mad Catz Lynx wireless controllers can be connected to the same console for simultaneous game play. The Lynx wireless controller for PlayStation 2 features fully analog pressure-sensitive action buttons and D-pad, dual analog joysticks, and rubberized grips for increased comfort. The controller includes two play modes for total control in any game (analog and digital) and built-in dual vibration motors for a more pronounced, realistic gaming experience.
