Klipsch Sponsors Little Steven's Underground Garage Festival
August 3, 2004 -- Following the announcement of its partnership with GarageBand.com, Klipsch Audio Technologies continues its efforts to reverse the audio industry's rapid decline by attracting new and younger customers through several grass roots marketing efforts. The company's latest endeavor includes sponsoring Little Steven Van Zandt's International Underground Garage Festival that takes place August 14, 2004 on Randall's Island in New York City.
According to Klipsch President Paul Jacobs, with the number of "traditional" audio customers declining and Hi-Fi sales weakening, it's up to loudspeaker manufacturers to reach untapped markets, including today's youth, and introduce them to the benefits of high-performance audio.
Intended to become the definitive rock 'n' roll event of our time, Klipsch believes a strong presence at Little Steven's Underground Garage Festival will have a powerful, positive impact on the festival's 18 to 26-year-old attendees.
"The future of the audio business lies in developing innovative products that appeal to younger audiences, and bringing better sound to wherever people are listening," Jacobs said. "As a highly-visible sponsor of this event, Klipsch will show concertgoers that we are a leading force in delivering great sounding music to people of all ages."
Iggy Pop & the Stooges, the Strokes, the re-formed New York Dolls, Bo Diddley, the Raveonettes and more of the world's best rock 'n' roll bands will play the Dunkin' Donuts main stage at the festival. The show will mark the legendary New York Dolls' first performance on U.S. soil following their reformation at the Meltdown Festival in England.
Truly an "international" event, the show will feature the best garage bands from around the globe, including Denmark's Raveonettes, England's The Contrast, Norway's Cocktail Slippers, Canadians The High Dials and The Chains, and Finland's Flaming Sideburns.
Also among the performers will be Muck and the Mires and the Blackouts, final winners of Little Steven's and Dunkin' Donut's recent Underground Garage Battle of the Bands, which was also sponsored by Klipsch. On July 23, at New York City's Irving Plaza, 11 of the country's best unsigned garage bands, each winners of regional battles in Boston, Providence, Philadelphia, Miami, Washington DC, Chicago, Cleveland, Long Island and Asbury Park, N.J., went head-to-head for the chance to perform on the Dunkin' Donuts main stage at the festival.
In keeping with Little Steven's ongoing mission to bring rock n roll to the masses, advance tickets for the day-long concert are just $20, with $25 tickets available for purchase on the day of the show. Tickets are now on sale through Ticketmaster (www.ticketmaster.com).
