John Deere Introduces New Riding Lawn Tractor

March 2005 - John Deere just introduced the L108, the most affordable riding lawn tractor with an automatic transmission in the John Deere product line. The L108 was designed and built to meet the needs of the consumer by featuring an 18.5 HP Briggs & Stratton single cylinder engine and an automatic transmission, all for under $1,600.

“Our customers help drive new product development,” said Cleo Franklin, John Deere Group Brand Manager for the Riding Lawn Equipment Division. “We designed the L108 with what our customers wanted – a more powerful engine, an automatic transmission and John Deere durability and reliability – at a more affordable price.”

The L108 offers homeowners significant feature upgrades from the L100. Built for the convenience of the user, the new lawn tractor drives easily, like a car, with an automatic transmission and two pedal foot control.

In addition, the L108 features The Edge™ Cutting System, an exclusive on John Deere riding mowers. The Edge™, a uniquely shaped deep-dome cutting deck, is designed to provide outstanding grass lift for a high quality, even cut. The welded 42-inch deck has a completely smooth underside that prevents grass buildup, leaving a manicured, clipping-free appearance. A rolled outer edge on the deck provides extra strength to the design, and the exclusive, dual-stage paint process provides extra protection from rust.

Made to mow up to 1.5 acres, the L108 features an 18-inch turning radius that enables the user to make tight turns and mow around obstacles in the yard. In addition to a quality cut, the L108 provides features to make the riding experience comfortable for the use, such as a medium height seat back and adjustable seat positioning.

Beginning in April 2005, the L108 will be sold at participating John Deere dealerships and The Home Depot. Products sold at both locations are backed by John Deere dealer support.
