New AirPod Personal Air Purifier

The new AirPod turns conventional air purifier design inside out while raising the bar for performance to a whole new level. With AirPod, consumers can create their own "Personal Clean AirZone".

Evolutionary design

Most air purifiers house the filter in hard casing along with the fan to draw air into the unit and push it back out again. But the casing, despite open grills designed to let air flow freely into the purifiers, actually acts as a barrier.

The AirPod strips away the hard casing from the filter, fully exposing it to the surrounding air. The filter is now cradled in a docking station that contains the patented Blueair HepaSilentTM technology. The filter and docking station form a compact module that delivers cleaner air at the rate of 45 cubic feet per minute. This sphere of clean air created by the AirPod is a "Personal Clean AirZone".

The AirPod delivers more clean air at a faster rate than any cleaner its size on the market. Standing 13" tall, the AirPod is ultra-compact making it ideal for the smallest of areas. Its light weight redefines the word "portable" to describe air purifiers. With filter attached, it weighs in at just 1.7 pounds, infinitely less than the heavyweights that call themselves portable air purifiers. The compact 6.3" x 4.3" x 13" design is the result of years of research and development.

"The AirPod concept was born from the idea that people want to breath cleaner air wherever they happen to be," says Bengt Rittri, president and founder of Blueair. "We set out to create a portable personal air purifier that is highly effective, extremely compact, eco-friendly and good looking. We also took into consideration the fact that people want to personalize their gadgets and appliances."

True personality

Personalization is a totally new feature for most air purifiers. The AirPod introduces two distinct ways to dress up the unit by choosing: (1) a filter design and (2) docking station accent colors. Initially consumers can pick from three different designs and three different accent colors.

"We see the AirPod becoming the consumer's indispensable and trustworthy companion,” explains Rittri. "People can express who they are by choosing designs and colors that suit their mood or their environment."

Stellar performance

Function is equally important as form for the AirPod. So much so that the AirPod is setting a new standard that is higher than the stated requirements of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's voluntary ENERGY STAR program.

Sound environmental design

More efficient use of material, lighter weight, energy efficiency, ease of assembly and less packaging are design criteria applied to every Blueair product. The AirPod is no exception. It uses approximately 60% less material to manufacture, 50% less packaging and 85% less energy than other air purifiers with comparable performance. It also runs on less than five watts of power where other units require 40 watts. No chemicals are used on the filter or elsewhere and no ozone by-products are released from the unit. In addition, all components and the packaging are 100% recyclable.

In the pipeline

Blueair plans to take the mix-and-match approach to personal air purifiers even further. More ways to personalize the AirPod both in terms of form and function are in the pipeline.
