Gaggenau's CM 200 Coffee Machine Receives 2005 GOOD DESIGN Award

December 13, 2005 – Gaggenau, the world's preeminent brand of high-performance restaurant-grade cooking technology for the modern home, has been honored in one of the most prestigious and long-running design competitions in the world, the GOOD DESIGN competition at the Chicago Athenaeum Museum of Architecture and Design. After the judges reviewed entries submitted from around the globe, the CM 200 coffee machine was awarded this esteemed mark of distinction.

Gaggenau's first small appliance adds even greater versatility to its line of built-in appliances for the uncompromising home chef. Gaggenau designers developed an appliance that would embody cutting-edge design by displaying unparalleled attention to detail and aesthetic contemporary artistry. First produced in January 2005 in Europe, the CM 200 will be widely available to complement American homes in January 2006.

Instrumental in securing the GOOD DESIGN award, advanced features are housed in a coffee machine that embodies luxury and seamless design. The brushed stainless steel, 24-inch wide fully automatic CM 200 integrates elegantly into any style of kitchen cabinetry. Due to the unique conical grinding gear of hardened steel, paired with the Aroma Whirl brewing technique, the drip grind is spun during the brewing process so that water reaches each and every coffee granule, ensuring distinctively flavorful ground coffee every time. The adjustable brewing chamber offers six levels of coffee grind quality – from smooth to super strong. Water pipes are rinsed after each cycle, guaranteeing the machine is 100 percent hygienic and delivers the most authentic coffee aroma every time. Brew espresso, cappuccino, latte macchiato, regular coffee, and foam milk with ease. Tailor the strength of coffee with three different coffee temperature settings and a selection of 12 water volumes. Brew one to two cups at a time with no guesswork. It also provides two separate chambers for two different types of coffee, such as caffeinated or decaffeinated.

The GOOD DESIGN competition was founded in 1950 with the participation of some of the world's most important designers: Eero Saarinen, Charles and Ray Eames, Florence Knoll, and other modern design greats. The CM 200 coffee machine will be displayed at The Chicago Athenaeum Museum of Architecture and Design (chi-athenaeum.org) and will permanently enter the collection.
