Epson Introduces New Family of Perfection Scanners

Epson just unveiled its new EPSON Perfection scanner line: the EPSON Perfection 1640SU series, the EPSON Perfection 1240U series and the EPSON Perfection 640U. There are six new flatbed offerings in all, each with their own unique set of features, providing a solution for every kind of scanning customer.

The EPSON Perfection 1640SU series provides 42-bit scanning and packs an impressive 1600 x 3200 dpi hardware resolution-the highest resolution in its class-for phenomenal image quality and razor sharp detail. The EPSON Perfection 1640SU scanners are available in three configurations: the Perfection 1640SU, Perfection 1640SU PHOTO and Perfection 1640SU OFFICE.

The EPSON Perfection 1240U scanners are ideal for SOHO and advanced home environments with the flexible option of transparency unit (TPU) in addition to 42-bit scanning and 1200 x 2400 dpi maximum hardware resolution for amazing detail. The Perfection 1240U models provide versatility with two configurations: the Perfection 1240U and the Perfection 1240U PHOTO.

The EPSON Perfection 640U scanner is an easy-to-use, entry-level scanner featuring plug and play USB installation. It delivers 36-bit scanning and 600 x 2400 dpi maximum hardware resolution at an affordable price.

All of the EPSON Perfection scanner models feature Epson's ColorTrue II Imaging System - the skillfully engineered integration of superior hardware, optics and processing - for premium image quality, amazing detail and incredible color accuracy. All models also feature fully automatic, one-touch scanning and an improved, intelligent scanner driver to automatically color correct and crop images.

The EPSON Perfection 1640SU Series-Breakthrough Technology
The EPSON Perfection 1640SU models feature true 1600 dpi optical resolution, 42-bit color depth and a maximum hardware resolution of 1600 x 3200 dpi using Epson's advanced Micro Step Drive technology. This exclusive technology features an extremely precise stepper motor, onboard memory and intelligent image processing for the highest sub-scan resolution in its class. By using a method known as "half stepping," the scanner is able to capture exceptional image detail by scanning at an amazing 3200 dpi.

As the perfect alternative to more expensive, high-end scanners, the Perfection 1640SU series provides everyone from entry-level graphic artists to advanced photography enthusiasts with the latest innovations in scanning technology. With both USB plug and play installation and ultra-fast SCSI connectivity, the Perfection 1640SU scanners can easily be set up on a variety of systems and work with both Windows and Macintosh. EPSON Perfection 1640SU PHOTO -- For maximum versatility right out of the box, this model comes with a transparency unit (TPU) making scanning film, negatives, transparencies or slides simple and convenient. This model is well suited for entry-level graphic artists and will be available by October for an estimated street price of $399.

EPSON Perfection 1640SU OFFICE - With a speedy 30-page, 5.5 ppm automatic document feeder (ADF), this scanner provides the ultimate in productivity. It is ideal for corporate and small business environments and will be available in October for an estimated street price of $499. The Perfection 1640SU models will be available through various outlets including some or all of the following, depending on the particular model: Epson authorized dealers, superstores, consumer electronic stores, mail order and distribution.

The EPSON Perfection 1240U Series-Perfectly Versatile
The Perfection 1240U models boast 42-bit color depth and 1200 x 2400 dpi maximum hardware resolution, in addition to features such as true one-touch scanning. These models are ideal for SOHO and advanced home environments and are easy to use with their USB interface for plug and play connectivity with Windows and Macintosh systems. The Perfection 1240U is available in two configurations:

EPSON Perfection 1240U - This model offers a feature-rich software bundle in addition to its high-quality scanning capabilities. It will be available in early November for an estimated street price of $199.

EPSON Perfection 1240U PHOTO-For the ultimate in versatility, this unit includes a TPU for scanning slides, transparencies, film and negatives with ease. This model serves as a flatbed and film scanner in one and is ideal for home, SOHO or education environments. It will be available in November for an estimated street price of $299. Both units will be available through Epson authorized dealers, superstores, consumer electronic stores, mail order and distribution.

EPSON Perfection 640U - Perfect Value
The EPSON Perfection 640U scanner offers 600 x 2400 dpi maximum hardware resolution, 36-bit color depth and plug and play USB connectivity for less than $150. This scanner is perfect for first time scanner customers with its no-compromise quality and simplified ease of use. The Perfection 640U offers fully automatic, one-touch scanning to scan text, photos or graphics with the simple touch of a button. It also contains a three-button interface for quick, easy access to popular programs and functions. This scanner will be available in November for an estimated street price of $149 through mail order and distribution.

Scanner Hardware Options
The automatic document feeder (ADF) and the transparency unit (TPU) are available for purchase separately with certain models. The ADF can be purchased for use with the Perfection 1640SU for an estimated street price of $199 and the TPU is available for the Perfection 1640SU and Perfection 1240U for an estimated street price of $99.Premium Software Bundle A full-featured, cross-platform software package is included with each scanner in the EPSON Perfection scanner line. The following titles are featured on the Perfection 1640SU series, the Perfection 1240U series and the Perfection 640U:
