Epson, HP & Lexmark Support Apples Rendezvous Technology

July 17 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Apple(R) (NASDAQ: AAPL) today announced that three major printer vendors -- Epson, HP and Lexmark -- are working to integrate Rendezvous, Apple's revolutionary home networking technology, into their products for automatic discovery and configuration of network printers. Rendezvous uses industry standard IP networking protocols and zero configuration technology to quickly and easily discover and connect devices over Ethernet, AirPort(R), FireWire(R), USB and Bluetooth. Rendezvous is integrated into Apple's Mac(R) OS X version 10.2 "Jaguar" software release announced today.

"Rendezvous is a prime example of how open standards can drive innovation," said Steve Jobs, Apple's CEO. "Rendezvous' powerful technology does away with complicated network and configuration settings. You'll never have to configure a network printer again."

"As the largest manufacturer of network printers, HP will be integrating the Rendezvous technology in our products to ensure network printing is even easier for our customers," said Vyomesh Joshi, executive vice president of HP Imaging and Printing Group.

"We are thrilled about the opportunity Rendezvous presents," said Dan Crane, vice president of Marketing, Epson America. "We're integrating Rendezvous support into future products so customers can simply turn on an Epson printer and it will automatically connect to the network or directly to a Mac."

"Lexmark is proud to be breaking new ground in support of Apple's Rendezvous technology," said Paul Rooke, Lexmark vice president and president of its Printing Solutions and Services Division. "With Rendezvous, our customers will find it easier than ever to use Lexmark products."
