Digit Wireless Announces Fastap-enabled Mobile PhoneFebruary 2005 -- Mobile device interface innovator, Digit Wireless, has announced the first commercial availability of a mobile device enabled with their Fastap technology. The Fastap LG 6190 phone, manufactured by LG Electronics, has been available from Canadian carrier TELUS Mobility since mid-December and overwhelming results have gained significant market attention. “TELUS Mobility was very excited to be the first wireless carrier worldwide to bring this innovative technology to market,” said Robert Blumenthal, TELUS Mobility’s vice president of products and services. “Launched in mid-December, the Fastap phones proved to be extremely popular items for the holidays – they flew off the shelves!” The Fastap keypad provides direct-entry one-touch alphanumeric input, allowing mobile phone users to create text and multimedia messages quickly and intuitively on mainstream voice-centric phones. Users are able to select letters, numbers and basic punctuation with the press of a single button, instead of "triple-tapping" keys or relying on predictive text software, as is available on most current phones. Equally important, Fastap provides the interface at the heart of the telephone: the 12-button keypad. The simplicity of design, adapted easily to any language, simultaneously reduces the ease-of-use adoption barrier and increases data use by existing users. TELUS Mobility (telusmobility.com) was the first wireless provider to market a phone with Fastap technology. Dr. David Levy, founder and CEO of Digit Wireless said, “Like wireless carriers, we seek to improve adoption of text applications such as SMS, chat, email, instant messaging and web browsing. Most users want an easier way to use data, but also like the familiar form factor of their existing handsets. This is why we believe Fastap provides a powerful new way to meet the needs of the operators and the end-users who want it all: a small, reasonably priced voice-centric data phone. The Fastap LG 6190 from TELUS Mobility is a perfect example.” For more information visit www.digitwireless.com. [] If you like this site then please subscribe to our full feed RSS.
