DataViz Enables Editing of Documents and Spreadsheets on Handheld Computers
Documents To Go transforms handhelds into indispensable tools and increases productivity. It is fully compatible with a number of popular word processing and spreadsheet programs including Microsoft Word and Excel, as well as a variety of programs from Lotus, Corel and Apple. Changes can be made on either the desktop or the handheld, and during the next synchronization any updates are transferred to the opposite side.
Word processing documents maintain formatting including bold, italic, underline, justifications, indentations, bullets and numbers. Spreadsheets support data from multiple sheets and allow editing and recalculation, while users can insert, reformat and delete text in word processing documents. This release provides a quick and easy way to update forecasts, price lists and contracts whenever necessary, making the Palm handheld the perfect companion to the desktop.
"Palm handhelds are seen by millions as a great companion to their desktop. With the Professional Edition, Documents To Go will be seen as a great 'office' companion, allowing users to get even more done on the road," said Gabriel Acosta-Lopez, senior director of platform alliance and partner services at Palm, Inc.
DataViz is applying its knowledge and experience with compatibility software to meet the need for desktop to handheld compatibility. Current market trends imply that there will continue to be a number of disparate desktop applications as well as a myriad of handheld computers. As Palm handheld usage becomes more widespread, Documents To Go can serve as an important tool to various vertical markets, such as fields of Law, Medicine and Education.
"The combination of editing and seamless synchronization with my documents and spreadsheets has allowed me to break the ties to my office system," said Kraig D. Pritts, school business administrator, Moravia Central School District. "This product should be renamed 'Office To Go.'"
Understanding that there are different needs in the Palm OS platform community, Documents To Go Standard Edition is still available for those who only need to view documents and spreadsheets. The Standard Edition is at a lower price point, takes up less space on the handheld and is only available from DataViz as a download.
With more and more people using e-mail on their handheld computers, there is a need to bring attachments as well. In response to customer demand Documents To Go comes with a free add-on called DataViz Mail (formerly Attachments To Go), an e-mail conduit which delivers attachments to the handheld during synchronization.
Documents To Go works on Palm Powered handhelds running Palm OS 3.0 or higher including the Palm handheld series, the Handspring Visor series and the IBM WorkPad. A complete list of supported devices is available at www.dataviz.com/devices. System requirements for Documents To Go are minimal and installation is easy. The software components of the product include the desktop application, file manager, document viewer and spreadsheet viewer.
Documents To Go has already won a number of industry awards including Best General Utility of 2000 by ZDNet, PalmPower magazine Editor's Choice Award and a Best Handheld Software Award from Mobile Computing & Communication magazine.
