D-BOX Turns Your Couch Into A Virtual Reality Ride
D-Box Makes You a Part of the Onscreen Action with the Revolutionary Odyssee Motion Simulator the World's First Kinetic Home Theater Product
April 3-Imagine watching "Jurassic Park" and actually feeling the earth quaking as the T-Rex stalks its prey. Not only do you see the ripples in the cup of coffee onscreen, you can feel the vibrations throughout your body. D-BOX Technologies, Inc. changes the way entertainment lovers watch and experience movies, sporting events, computers and video games, by introducing the Odyssee Motion Simulator, the technology breakthrough that transforms your living room into a virtual-reality experience.
Odyssee is the world's first product in the new category of Kinetic Home Theater, which derives motion simulation through audio signals and digital encoding. Placed under the corners of a sofa or seating platform, Odyssee connects to your DVD player or other program source, creating three-dimensional motion in your sofa or other seating seamlessly synchronized with the onscreen action. The system is compatible with every DVD movie as well as other movies, programs and sporting events available on VHS, broadcast, cable and satellite. For a current list of movies for which D-BOX has programmed F/X motion codes please visit http://www.d-box.com.
"With the U.S. showing sizable growth in the DVD and state-of-the-art home entertainment industry categories, bringing the Odyssee to American homes is essential," said Michel Jacques, president and founder, D-BOX Technologies, Inc. "Viewers will actually feel a variety of exhilarating virtual reality experiences, the twists and turns of an exciting car chase, escaping from a natural disaster or being on board for a Saturn 5 liftoff."
Odyssee's proprietary, patented technology is a result of over four years of intensive in-house and university research and development. The Odyssee Motion Simulator, which is capable of handling up to 1,600 pounds (combined weight of seating area and three to four viewers), draws viewers into the action by enhancing the emotional impact of audio and video with dramatic motion at up to two units of gravitational force (2 Gs). It received the prestigious Innovations '99 Award given by the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA) and the Industrial Designers Society of America.
"Consumers will no longer be satisfied just seeing and hearing the action of their favorite DVD. Odyssee takes them on a virtual reality adventure that literally puts them into the core of the film, adding unparalleled emotional dimension to the entire viewing experience," said Jacques.
Through the assistance of a CEDIA custom installer, the Odyssee can be integrated into an existing home theater system, with sofa seating, in less than an hour. Once installed, it is easy to operate and is virtually maintenance-free. In addition, Odyssee's onboard diagnostics incorporate a number of safety features, including placing the system on standby in the event of malfunction or overload as well as a "child lockout" feature which requires a security code before the system can be used.
