The new Continental Express flights aboard the fast, quiet 50-passenger ERJ-145 ExpressJet represent the only nonstop service between the New York City area and Daytona Beach International Airport, which received funds through a new federal program designed to improve air service in smaller communities.

Mica, who authored the pilot program to support regional airports. Continental is New York's largest passenger carrier, with more than 350 daily departures from Newark to 120 domestic and international cities, including frequent non-stops to Europe, Latin America and Asia.
