Canon Makes the World's Smallest Image Stabilizer Binoculars Even Smaller
Feb. 1, 2002-- Canon U.S.A. Inc., a subsidiary of Canon, Inc. (NYSE: CAJ), is once again expanding its line of Image Stabilizer binoculars with the introduction of the new 8x25 IS model, the world's smallest and lightest binoculars with Image Stabilizer technology.
Canon was able to reduce the overall size and weight of the binoculars by incorporating a new, Tilt Mechanism Image Stabilizer system. Unlike other Canon Image Stabilizer binoculars which use a vari-angle prism composed of two glass elements and a flexible bellows, the 8x25 IS model works by "tilting" a single lens element in the left and right lens barrels to counteract shake. The result is a pair of all-purpose binoculars that is 20% lighter and 25% smaller than Canon's 10x30 IS model. In addition, this new process reduces power consumption and enables up to 6 hours of continuous Image Stabilizer operation.
"Canon is dedicated to enhancing the viewing experience of our customers," said Yukiaki Hashimoto, vice president and general manager, Photographic Products Group, Canon U.S.A, Inc. "Whether it's from the back row of a concert hall, the front row at Yankee Stadium, or bird watching in a National Park, the 8x25 IS binoculars will provide a steady view of any event while providing convenience and easy portability with their compact size and light weight."
In addition to its image stabilizing feature, the 8x25 IS binoculars feature multi-coated lead-free glass Canon optics including field flatteners for brilliant contrast and excellent edge-to-edge sharpness. The binoculars offer 8X magnification, long eye relief, and an apparent viewing field of 53(Degree), making them an ideal choice for any number of applications including nature, wildlife and sports. The outstanding optical quality together with Canon's original image stabilization technology allow users to view a subject longer with less eye strain.
The new binoculars round-out a complete line of Canon Image Stabilizer binoculars which includes the 10x30 IS, 12x36 IS, 15x50 IS AW and 18x50 IS AW models.
The new 8x25 IS binoculars, which measure 4.7 (W) x 5.4 (D) x 2.4 (H)-inches and weigh a mere 16.9 ounces, will be available at authorized Canon dealers in March and have a suggested list price of $460.00.
