Buffalo Raises the Storage Bar with a Two Terabyte TeraStation
April 2006 -- Buffalo Technology, a global leader in the design, development and manufacturing of wired and wireless networking, storage, multimedia and memory solutions has announced it is expanding its award-winning line of Network Attached Storage (NAS) devices with a 2TB version of its highly touted TeraStation Terabyte Network Storage devices. The newly announced TeraStation Home Server will now be available in capacities of 1.6TB (HS-D1.6GL/R5) and 2TB (HS-D2.0GL/R5).
Until now, Buffalo only offered a 1TB version of the product. Buffalo’s new TeraStation Pro will also offer 2TB of storage (TS-2.0TGL/R5). “We are in the age of the digital packrat where you can’t get enough storage. Being able to offer our customers 2TB of storage that’s very affordable and easy-to-use is something we are very excited about,” stated Morikazu Sano, senior vice president of global marketing at Buffalo Technology. “By giving home and business users access to the capacity, features and performance that the TeraStation offers at a price that fits into any budget, we are providing a cost-effective way to ensure their data is protected now and into the future.”
The new consumer-targeted TeraStation Home Server includes media server software from Mediabolic, which allows users to manage and distribute digital content to multiple PCs or network entertainment devices on the home network. The product is one of the first DLNA CERTIFIEDTM NAS devices on the market, which ensures seamless compatibility and interoperability amongst DLNA complaint home digital devices such as a television or home stereo. It includes four USB 2.0 ports, a built-in USB print server and a file server.
The TeraStation Pro, Buffalo’s business-class NAS device now features Active Directory member support, allowing the product to be deployed in larger companies that utilize Active Directory Domain environments. It also features two USB 2.0 ports, four serial ATA hard drives and a lockable front panel for easy access and replacement of the product’s hard drives. It also includes an LCD monitor, which indicates operational mode, disk usage, network information, or if there are any problems with the device.
Both versions are Windows and Macintosh compatible and include four operational modes: Standard Mode, Spanning Mode, Mirroring Mode and Raid 5 Mode. The products feature a 10/100/1000 Gigabit Ethernet port and Jumbo Frame capability for higher transfer speeds than standard Gigabit networks. All versions of the TeraStation offer additional data protection with the included Journaling File System and MemeoTM AutoBackupTM backup software.
Backed by a limited one-year warranty and toll-free 24/7 technical support, the 1.6TB TeraStation Home Server (HS-D1.6GL/R5) and the 2TB TeraStation Home Server (HS-D2.0GL/R5) will be available in May at estimated street prices of $1499 and $1899 respectively. The 2TB TeraStation Pro (TS-2.0TGL/R5) is immediately available at an estimated street price of $1999. The products are available through retail outlets, resellers and Buffalo’s web site.
