Blue Canoe Announces Contemporary Missy Category for Yoginis
June 15, 2005 – With more than 16.5 million people practicing yoga, the yoga market has grown more than 43 percent since 2002, according to a recent study conducted by the Yoga Journal. And about 75 percent of these practitioners are women, many who purchase yoga apparel regularly, according to Laurie Dunlap, president of Blue Canoe, manufacturer of 100% organic cotton yoga apparel.
“A majority of the women doing yoga are between the ages of 30 and 55, and many of them are in great shape and think young, unlike prior generations. While they are looking for fitness/yoga apparel to reflect their youthful attitudes and looks, they are not necessarily looking for the trendiest items such as excessively low pants, or on the other spectrum, baggy sweats,” explained Dunlap.
On that note, Blue Canoe introduces its line of sophisticated, “contemporary missy” yoga/fitness apparel for fall ’05, offering a contemporary look somewhere between junior and missy. With a focus on comfort, fit and function, the line moves as easily from the yoga class to the Pilates mat and transitions easily into travel apparel.
New items for fall include pants, a jacket, cardigan, bralette and new baby items. Fall colors include peach, merlot, blueberry, patina, chestnut, avocado, pimento, natural and black.
Wrap yourself in lightweight pure organic cotton with a touch of Lycra for fall outings, travel or after yoga class with the new jacket (pictured above) or cardigan. “The jacket is stylish and light, and goes with everything,” remarked Dunlap. It features two side pockets with a contrast zipper and stitching, and is cuffed at the sleeve and bottom edge. A 90/10 cotton/Lycra blend, it is a great layering piece, travels well and will retail for $68.
Pairing nicely with the new jacket is the Santa Fe pant (pictured right), a full-length version of Blue Canoe’s popular Santa Fe Crop pant, with the same low (but not too low) waist, drawstring and contrasting, jean-like top stitching. In a 90/10 organic cotton/Lycra blend, they retail for $74.
Another great layering piece, the Slight Cardigan cuts the chill in style, adding an extra flair to one’s yoga outfit. In a tunic length with long, slightly belled sleeves, it features an empire closure, and works great over Blue Canoe’s embroidery pieces, as the embroidery still shows. The Cardigan is made from 100% organic Cotton Cashmere for a super soft hand, with a suggested retail price of $48.
The Bralette is made from a cotton/Lycra blend with a wide band that gently hugs. An underbust dart gives shape and contrast trim provides an outerwear look. It will retail for $24.
For the smaller set, Blue Canoe offers the new Baby Embroidered Top and the Embroidered Baby Hat for $24, and $15 respectively. The top features a long sleeve crossover style in soft organic Cotton Cashmere and the hat tops off any outfit, and with 10% Lycra, accommodates most heads.
Most items in the spring ‘05 line will continue to be offered in fall, yet in the updated fall colors, including the latest embroidered pieces. Colors include peach, merlot, blueberry, patina, chestnut, avocado, pimento, natural and black.
