American Wave Brightens up the Girls' Wetsuit Market

girl in wetsuit January 2003 -- American Wave, a manufacturer of wetsuits since 1995, introduces entry level, quality girls' wetsuits, featuring paneled Hawaiian prints and starbursts that girls will find especially fun to wear. Parents will appreciate the price tag - $54 for a spring suit and $82.50 for a full suit.

"There are very few companies paying any attention to the entry level surfers, especially girls," said company president Joe Dorsey. "It's rare to find a performance wetsuit with all the bells and whistles that we are providing at such a competitive price. And with these designs, they definitely have girl appeal."

Available in both full and spring suits, they are made with a high quality, 2/2 mm flexible neoprene, providing girls with several years' worth of use. Full suits include zippered legs, making entry and exit much easier than most children's suits.

Other performance features include:

  • double nylon lined throughout
  • high quality closed cell rubber to protect the suit from UV damage
  • strong, flexible and decorative five-needle flat-stitching
  • #10 heavy duty YKK zipper with key pouch inside
  • special shoulder stretch gussets for added shoulder mobility
  • reinforced patches at zipper base and crotch
  • snag proof knee pads
  • taped crotch area to reinforce high stress area

The suits come in black with the color panel designs in floral red, blue, or black in sizes small to extra-large.

In addition to the updated girls' designs, American Wave also offers solid color wetsuits with the same performance caliber in men's women's, unisex, juniors, boys' and girls' sizes. The company will soon introduce boys' wetsuits with designs ranging from flames to zebra stripes.

All wetsuits are made in America, and all employees are paid a living wage. "We are able to control the quality of our product as it's made right here in California, rather than thousands of miles overseas," commented Dorsey.
