Adobe Introduces Acrobat eBook Reader 2.1

New Version is Available From Leading Online Retailers Amazon.com, Barnes and Noble.com
April 25 -- Adobe today announced the immediate availability of the Adobe Acrobat eBook Reader 2.1 from Adobe.com, Amazon.com and Barnes and Noble.com. The new Adobe Acrobat eBook Reader 2.1 features Adobe CoolType font rendering technology, a two-page layout feature and a built-in interactive dictionary. "The Acrobat eBook Reader is the only tool on the market that gives Mac and Windows users an interactive, graphically-rich reading experience with the ability to print and navigate through the Web-all within the same interface," said Michael Looney, senior director of eBooks at Adobe. "Because Adobe eBooks are based on Adobe Portable Document Format (PDF), users such as students and mobile professionals can leverage these great tools to interactively consume eBooks ranging from textbooks and financial reports to children's books and cookbooks."

The Acrobat eBook Reader 2.1 offers new features that dramatically improve the end-user's eBook experience. With Adobe CoolType technology, consumers can view the font of any Adobe PDF-based eBook at a variety of resolutions and select the most pleasing to read on their LCD screen. Users can also click on any word and the new interactive dictionary appears with a definition. Additionally, where the publisher grants permission, users can lend and give their eBook selections between Acrobat eBook Readers.

"The Adobe Acrobat eBook Reader provides a rich platform for digital books of all genres by including print capability, video and search features, and links directly to the Web," said Sue Kervorkian, analyst with IDC. "In addition, it gives both Macintosh and Windows users the flexibility to access a growing library of digital books on a variety of devices, as well as in printed and spoken formats."

Adobe Acrobat eBook Reader 2.1 for Windows and the Macintosh beta are available for download today at no charge from the Adobe.com Web site at http://www.adobe.com/products/ebookreader/main.html. The Windows version is also available at the eBookstore at Barnes and Noble.com Web site at www.bn.com, or from the eBook store at Amazon.com at www.amazon.com.
