Acer's Powerful New Ultra-Thin Notebook Delivers Leading-Edge Technology

Acer America Corp. just announced the addition of the TravelMate 350 to its award-winning, super-light TravelMate family of notebooks. The sleek, new TravelMate 350 series is designed for people who need a powerful ultraportable notebook on the road.

Featuring cost-efficient commonality, powerful performance and portability at a very attractive price, the latest notebook is approximately one inch thin and weighs four pounds. Built around Intel Pentium III processors, with Speedstep technology, the TravelMate 350 delivers blazing speeds up to 750 MHz.

The TravelMate 350 integrates cutting-edge SmartCard technology for added user security with e-commerce web transactions. Bluetooth technology will be an available option, allowing mobile users to wirelessly connect to other devices. Recognizing the rapid advance of Bluetooth wireless technology, scheduled to be available by the first quarter of 2001, the TravelMate 350 Bluetooth option is designed to support a wireless Personal Area Network (PAN). Bluetooth eliminates the need for wires and cables to interface with other Bluetooth ready computers, notebooks, handheld appliances, cell phones and local peripherals.

"We designed the TravelMate 350 notebook to share the same components as its predecessor, so customers won't have to re-invest in new external components when upgrading their existing notebook to the TravelMate 350," says Paul Tayar, mobile products marketing manager for Acer America. The modular components common to all TravelMate notebooks include an I/O adapter, AC adapter, DVD/floppy combo drive, USB camera and port replicator.

The notebook ships with a flexible EasyLink ComboDrive FDD (floppy disk drive)/24X CD-ROM. The unit is also equipped with an integrated V.90 56Kbps modem and a 10/100 BaseT Ethernet LAN connection, one PCMCIA (Type II), one 1394 firewire, two USB ports, one PS2 port, and 100 pin connector for easy docking.

The notebook also features a sleek magnesium alloy casing that is both durable and rugged, with a built-in advanced Disk Anti-Shock Protection system (DASP), guarding the hard drive against data loss caused by knocks and drops. Other user-friendly features include a full-sized, ergonomically designed keyboard with programmable keys for easy application launch. "It has the mobility, wireless connectivity, battery life and ease of use that meets our customer requirements," said Tayar.

The TravelMate 350 will ship on Oct. 17, 2000 to resellers across the United States, with a starting price of $1,999.
