Apple Revolutionizes Video Editing With Final Cut Pro X

June 22, 2011--Apple on Tuesday announced Final Cut Pro X, a revolutionary new version of the world’s most popular Pro video editing software which completely reinvents video editing with a Magnetic Timeline that lets you edit on a flexible, trackless canvas; Content Auto-Analysis that categorizes your content upon import by shot type, media and people; and background rendering that allows you to work without interruption. Built on a modern 64-bit architecture, Final Cut Pro X is available from the Mac App Store for $299.99.

"Final Cut Pro X is the biggest advance in Pro video editing since the original Final Cut Pro," said Philip Schiller, Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Product Marketing. "We have shown it to many of the world’s best Pro editors, and their jaws have dropped."

"I’m blown away by what Apple has done with Final Cut Pro," said Angus Wall, Academy Award-winning film editor. "Final Cut Pro X is incredibly modern and fast, but most importantly it lets you focus on telling your story in the most creative way, while it actively manages all of the technical details."Read more

2011 NAB Show: Days 3, 4

Creative Production is in the Cloud

 NAB 2011 Show Floor

This year's NAB gave us two "Ah Ha" moments.

First, there are no real centralizing movie, TV show production enclaves anymore.

The industry may make its money on good ideas creatively executed, but the industry's spirits rest in huge – and we mean huge – storage libraries spread around the country, around the globe.

But before we discuss what was new, better, ready for use tomorrow, we need to do a little clean-up from the first two days.

Apple, in their typical fashion, showed without showing the next generation of Final Cut Pro.

They called it a sneak peek because even though it has been rebuilt from the ground up, it shows that the fruit company is going to continue to be a big player in professional content production. Read more

Canon on Friday announced that the EOS E1 video plug-in for Apple's Final Cut Pro is now available.

This new plug-in allows you to easily transfer video content from Canon's EOS DSLR cameras directly into Final Cut Pro. The EOS E1 video plug-in takes advantage of Final Cut Pro's Log and Transfer feature, which lets you select and mark the video directly while it is still on the camera. You can also add custom metadata and ingest the clips in the background so the editing can start immediately.

The EOS E1 video plug-in is a free download available at www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/finalcutstudio. The plug-in is compatible with Final Cut Pro 6 or higher and currently supports Canon EOS 5D Mark II, EOS 7D and EOS 1D Mark IV cameras.

JVC Introduces First Hand-Held Camcorder to Record Native Final Cut Pro Files

GY-HM100 ProHD camcorder February 10, 2009—JVC Professional Products Company today formally announced the GY-HM100 ProHD camcorder, the industry's first professional hand-held model to record files directly to solid state media in the native format of Apple's Final Cut Pro™ editing system. For the first time, recorded material can be edited directly from the solid state memory card, dramatically reducing the amount of time required to edit programs together. The camera met with rave reviews when it was previewed at the Final Cut Pro User Group SuperMeet at Macworld in January.

“Traditionally, camera manufacturers have designed their products expecting NLE vendors to conform to proprietary or generic file formats resulting in an extra and often time consuming step when preparing to edit,” said Craig Yanagi, National Marketing Manager for Creation Products at JVC. “Files created in the GY-HM100 can be edited immediately without conversion. It's truly the first camcorder designed for post production.”

With the development of the new GY-HM100 ProHD camcorder, JVC offers versatility, quality and value in a hand-held, professional 3-CCD format that is both easy to use and on par with broadcast cameras. The GY-HM100 delivers amazing high-bandwidth recordings at 1080p, 720p and 1080i on affordable and widely available SDHC Class 6 memory cards and is sure to cause waves in the industry. Weighing a mere 3.1 lbs, the GY-HM100 packs performance and features which until now were found only in larger, more expensive models. Read more
