Tadpole Club - Award Winning Films Kids Love & Parents Trust

February 2005 - Virtuous Reality Entertainment (VRE), an innovative company that combines entertainment with character education, launched the Tadpole Club, a new web-based subscription service that delivers carefully selected, award-winning films on DVD, along with discussion and activity guides, designed to help build character and encourage virtuous behavior among children ages 4 to 9.

The Tadpole Club delivers consistently positive family viewing experiences each month. The films in each set of DVDs embrace the fundamental virtues, which are congruent among all cultures and religions: faith, honesty, gratitude, generosity, perseverance, discipline, compassion, humility, forgiveness, respect, courage and patience. A recently released study commissioned by the Henry J. Kaiser Family Foundation, reports that the vast majority of parents have seen their children imitate both positive and negative behavior from TV. Parents clearly see that children's television watching has a direct effect on behavior. TV violence saturates our culture where the average child who watches two hours of cartoons each day may see nearly 10,000 violent incidents each year, of which researchers estimate that at least 500 exposures pose a high risk for learning and imitating aggression.

"Having hosted Reading Rainbow for the past 22 years, I know what it means to make captivating entertainment that parents can trust," said VRE advisory board member LeVar Burton. "The Tadpole Club is delivering movies that are diverse in content, well produced, wholesome and fun to watch -- providing an incredible resource for teachers and parents to create a dialogue with their children about issues that matter to today's families."

VRE is dedicated to delivering content that provides children with positive messages and role models. This is accomplished by carefully screening all projects and programs based upon selection criteria that is set forth by the board of advisors, who are experts in the fields of media literacy, ethics, cultural studies, education, psychology and the expansion of human potential.

"We believe that VRE can make a difference in the lives of families by providing alternatives to the selfishness, greed and instant gratification that are promoted in much of the mainstream media,2 says President, Nancy Carroll. "The Tadpole Club was created to provide positive influences for youth that help to create a culture of character. Our future depends upon it."

Tadpole Club subscribers receive up to 3 hours of captivating entertainment on collectable DVDs for only $19.95 per month. Films vary in length and format and include live action, animation, shorts, feature films, nature programs, kids yoga and exercise and even live music performances. There is never a return or a late fee and memberships may be canceled at any time without penalty. All DVDs remain the property of the subscriber.

Tadpole Club discussion and activity guides (provided for each film) are designed to help parents consciously and skillfully initiate discussions with their children about the virtues illustrated in the programs. Parents can be confident that their children will be developing positive values and important life-skills, while they are entertained.
