Kyocera Wireless to Pre-Load Popular on Kyocera Handsets
May 19, 2005 – At the 2005 E3 Expo today, Kyocera Wireless announced collaborative agreements to bring some of the gaming industry's most popular titles to Kyocera mobile phones, significantly enhancing the gaming experience for Kyocera customers. As a result of these relationships, games from Sorrent and Taito will be available on several Kyocera phones as pre-loaded applications or downloads over BREW or Java with select CDMA wireless service carriers.
“Wireless phones are becoming a distinct extension of certain lifestyles and personalities, including the hardcore and casual gamers,” said Savi Soin, senior director of business development at Kyocera Wireless Corp. “Being able to offer popular titles from gaming giants like Sorrent and Taito on our phones only increases the attractiveness of Kyocera products to gamers, as we continue to try and do our part by offering gaming-friendly phones and a compelling set of accessories such as our K500 Gamepad.”
Sorrent brings a vast portfolio of critically-acclaimed mobile entertainment to Kyocera phones, featuring games and content based on original and licensed properties from leading worldwide brands. Sorrent titles are available to more than 800 million mobile subscribers via 90 wireless carriers worldwide, across platforms including Java, BREW and i-mode.
"Consumer demand for mobile entertainment is growing rapidly, and Kyocera is clearly making it a priority to deliver unique phones and mobile accessories that consumers want,” said Jill Braff, senior vice president of worldwide marketing, Sorrent, Inc. "By offering preloaded games, Kyocera customers are given instant gratification and additional value on their purchase and can begin playing right away.”
At the forefront of mobile phone developments, Taito has aggressively pursued and promoted the deployments for mobile content business overseas and its games have been successfully provided for carriers around the globe.
"Mobile phone manufacturers are recognizing how quickly the wireless gaming space is growing, and its not just hardcore gamers that are playing games on their cell phones," said Shinichiro Kasama, general manager at Taito Corporation. "That being said, Kyocera understands that the value proposition of pre-loading Taito games on its handsets lies in the brand loyalty of gamers, who will continue to buy Kyocera products as users find them ideal for mobile gaming and offering the titles they want to play."
Kyocera Wireless is committed to making the wireless phone user experience as simple as possible, including casual or heavy use of entertainment features such as music, video, and games on Kyocera cell phones. The company offers a variety of phone platforms for all types of users, as well as a full line of accessories including the Kyocera K500 Gamepad for a more console-like gaming experience on cell phones.
