Datacolor Updates SpyderGallery iPad App

 SpyderGallery iPad App

Just last month Datacolor released SpyderGallery, the first color calibration app for iOS devices. The company has already updated the app, releasing SpyderGallery iPad app version 1.1, available now for free download on the Apple App Store.

SpyderGallery 1.1 adds a ton of new features, including more reliability for RAW and large JPEG image file support, faster thumbnail generation, display and scrolling, and - the number one request of current users - it no longer requires Location Services to be enabled. When disabled, SpyderGallery will use the standard photo picker to browse albums and select images from the iPad photo library.

Datacolor's SpyderGallery version 1.1 is available for free download from the App Store on iPad on www.itunes.com/appstore. For more information on SpyderGallery for iPad, visit www.datacolor.com/goto/spydergallery.

"Following the initial success of the SpyderGallery launch, we began making developments to enhance its user features based upon our customer feedback," said Knut Fenner, Vice President, Imaging Color Solutions, Datacolor. It's our continued mission to meet the needs and expectations of professional photographers and the new version of SpyderGallery solidifies this undertaking."

Datacolor Intros SpyderCheckr and SpyderCheckr Pro at Photokina

 Datacolor SpyderCheckr

This week at Photokina, Datacolor introduced SpyderCheckr, a new color reference tool that allows photographers to obtain consistent, accurate color within a standard RAW processing workflow, perform in-camera white balance, create custom camera calibration and record known color references.

SpyderCheckr features 48 color patches in a wide range of spectrally neutral colors and user-friendly profiling software that allows photographers to achieve consistent color control.

Also introduced is the Datacolor SpyderCheckrPro, a bundle package that includes the SpyderCheckr along with the Datacolor SpyderCube for capturing custom white balance, neutrality data from multiple light sources and correcting highlight and shadow details. SpyderLensCal

Photokina 2010 is taking place later this month, and photographers attending the trade show are in for a special treat. Datacolor will be offering free calibration services using its complete line of Spyder3 monitor calibration products. The company will also be unveiling SpyderLensCal, the new DSLR lens calibration device told you about earlier this week.

Photographers simply need to visit Datacolor's booth to experience Spyder3Elite, Spyder3Pro, and Spyder3Express calibration tools, as well as get a look at SpyderLensCal, the latest addition to the Spyder line. Offering calibration of lenses and autofocus functions on modern DSLR camera bodies, the SpyderLensCal will be unveiled on September 22 at 10:00 AM at Datacolor's booth.

The company will also be presenting the results of its 'Real New York' photo contest. To view Datacolor's full schedule at Photokina, or for more information, visit www.datacolor.com/photokina2010.

"Our presence at Photokina is about more than showcasing the latest in color accuracy and calibration technology," said Christoph Gamper, Vice President, Datacolor Consumer Unit. Therefore, we want to offer added value to them by providing great service along with expert advice to help bring their craft to another level."

Datacolor to Launch SpyderLensCal at Photokina

 SpyderLensCal

Datacolor has a new autofocus calibration tool that lets photographers save lens profiles for reuse. Called SpyderLensCal, it can store lens autofocus corrections on recent DSLR cameras, allowing photographers to change from lens to lens without needing to recalibrate.

Until now, lens calibration inaccuracies were corrected by shipping the camera and lenses to the manufacturers for servicing. But thanks to SpyderLensCal, photographers can calibrate interchangeable lenses on their own, saving both time and money.

"Autofocus inaccuracy can exist on even the most high-end lenses, and can negate an entire day's worth of shooting or other assignments if left unaddressed," said Christoph Gamper, Vice President, Consumer Business Unit. "Professional photographers today are using a variety of lenses, differing in focus depending on the combination being used with the camera body. The SpyderLensCal gives photographers a tool that allows them to correct discrepancies on their own while improving the quality of their work by increasing the number of usable shots." Read more
