Recon Rugged Handheld Computer to be Showcased at CTIA Wireless 2003October 14, 2003-Tripod Data Systems (TDS), a wholly owned subsidiary of Trimble (NASDAQ:TRMB), today announced its TDS Recon rugged handheld computer will be featured in the Wireless Widgets display at the CTIA Wireless 2003 trade show in Las Vegas October 20-23. The Recon is one of 13 new products chosen for the Wireless Widgets showcase, which will also be featured on CNN. On October 22, in Booth #536, CTIA will host a series of media interviews explaining how the Recon and other selected products work. CTIA will demonstrate streaming video on the Recon via an 802.11-compliant wireless connection. This ability is useful to anyone who needs to be in one location and still monitor activities in a separate location. Police, rescue workers and the military can use this Recon feature to view dangerous situations from a remote location. "CTIA selected some of the most compelling, useful and interesting wireless devices for the showcase," said Kimberly Kuo, Vice President of Communications. "The Recon met several of our criteria. Not only is it highly functional and easy to use, its rugged, modular construction delivers the 'wow factor' that will draw interest from show attendees and the media." TDS will also feature the Recon in Booth #1129 at the show. Designed for all-day operation in extreme outdoor and industrial applications, the Recon meets the MIL-STD-810F military standards for drops, vibration and temperatures from -22 to 140 ºF (-30 to 60 C). It also comes with an IP67 rating, meaning it is impervious to dust and water immersion. The Recon's rugged construction makes it ideal for land surveying, mapping, forestry, utilities, law enforcement and military applications. The Recon weighs just 17 ounces, and its rounded edges provide a comfortable grip. Large, widely spaced buttons are easy to use, and its reflective color TFT display is bright and clear, even in bright sunlight. The Recon runs Microsoft Windows Mobile 2003 software for Pocket PCs, bringing the most popular handheld applications-including Pocket versions of Word, Excel, Outlook and Internet Explorer-to users working in extreme temperatures, driving rain, dusty job sites and other harsh environments. The Recon comes with a 200- or 400-MHz Intel XScale processor, 64 MB of SDRAM and up to 128 MB of internal nonvolatile Flash storage. It also features two CompactFlash slots for adding accessories such as a Bluetooth wireless card, plus a standard 9-pin serial port and a USB port for connecting to a PC. The standard PowerBoot ModuleT features a 15-hour rechargeable NiMH battery. For more information about TDS, visit www.tdsway.com/handhelds, e-mail handhelds@tdsway.com or call 541-752-9000.
