MusiKube Announces Integrated Music Discovery Solution for Windows Mobile

March 2004 - MusiKube, a leading developer of music recognition and discovery solutions, today announced an integrated Music Discovery solution for Windows Mobile 2003 software for Smartphones and Pocket PCs. MusiKube and Microsoft will jointly demonstrate technologies that enable richer enjoyment of music discovery and music interest capture. Microsoft is the lead sponsor of MusiKube's launch event and concert at CTIA, featuring Alanis Morissette, to showcase this new solution.

MusiKube has developed a suite of technologies and services for mobile operators and retailers that give consumers the tools to capture their music interests wherever and whenever they come across it, while giving retailers, record labels and wireless service providers new opportunities to increase profitability by increasing consumer impulse purchases.

"MusiKube is addressing a vital need for technologies and services that put music discovery in the hands of the consumer," said David Alstadter, Director, Rich Media and Entertainment Solutions, for Microsoft Corp. "Their solution showcases both Microsoft's advanced media technologies for mobile handsets as well as our .NET technologies. It's also a great example of a solution that enables compelling consumer experiences anytime, anywhere, on any device - mobile or PC."

"Microsoft is the world leader in developing technologies that serve as the backbone for rich, multimedia services," said Ashley Heather, CEO of MusiKube. "Cooperating closely with Microsoft enables us to demonstrate the benefits of an integrated music discovery experience, enabled by our MusiKube Client that is unique to Windows Mobile software. It also highlights the advantages of working with market leading media technologies such as Windows Media Format and DRM across multiple platforms - mobile device and PC."

MusiKube's services include the iCapture audio and barcode recognition services, and the in-store Personal Music Guide (PMG).

  • The MusiKube iCapture Audio Recognition Service turns everyday mobile phones into music capture and discovery devices by allowing consumers to identify music whenever it is heard.
  • The MusiKube iCapture Barcode Recognition Service turns camera phones into music capture and discovery devices by allowing consumers to scan barcodes on albums, advertisements, concert posters and other print media, such as in-store displays.
  • The MusiKube PMG is a wireless music discovery system for music retailers that uses a customized personal digital assistant, and a proprietary Media Platform encompassing licensed samples of millions of songs, album reviews and related content, to give consumers the ability to scan barcodes in a store and receive a personalized and interactive music discovery experience.

Whether captured via audio or barcode scanned, once a song has been identified through the iCapture service, consumers can open links and listen to song samples, receive recommendations, share the information with their friends and buy related products, such as ringtones, 'truetones' and digital downloads - directly on their Windows Mobile-based device. A full list of all identified songs and albums can also be viewed, sampled and purchased from the MusiKube Website along with related products such as monophonic, polyphonic and 'true tones' ringtones through MusiKube's fulfillment partners.
