Love Your Palm but Frustrated with Text Input?
October 20, 2003 - - Following the success of its Pocket PC version launch, Xrgomics, a company that specializes in Human Interface Technology (HIT), today announced the launch of the Palm and Tablet PC versions of its highly-rated mobile text entry technology, TenGO. With these new soft keyboard versions, Xrgomics extends its reach to the Palm and Tablet PC communities, promising to breathe new life into mobile devices and forever change the way users think about on-the-go text entry.
TenGO now makes fast, easy and prolonged text entry a reality for Palm and Tablet PC users. Using proprietary algorithms to reduce the conventional keyboard to just ten main keys (six alpha-numeric and four function keys), TenGO allows mobile users and road warriors alike to use their portable PDAs just as they would a traditional keyboard-tethered computer.
KEY BENEFITS
- Intuitive - users do not need to learn something new
- Fulfills the three basic needs for "true" text input: 1) Easy, 2) Fast, and
- Able to sustain prolonged text input
COMPATIBILITY
Xrgomics is currently offering three versions of its TenGO software to
fulfill
most PDA user needs:
- Resolution 160x160 Grayscale [Non-Colored Models] for Palm: i705, Zire, M125, M105, M100, VIIx, VII, Vx, V, IIIxe, IIIx, IIIe, III, S300, S320, S360 and SJ20
- Resolution 160x160 Color [Colored Models] for Palm: M515, M130, M505 and IIIc
- Resolution 320x320 Color [Sony OS4 with 320x320 screen] for Sony: SJ33, SJ22, N710, N760, T665, T615 and NR70V
THE TECHNOLOGY
Essentially, TenGO segments the conventional QWERTY keyboard to just 6
large
alphabet keys without rearranging the letters and forcing users to learn a
new
keyboard layout.
While TenGO is ideal for mobile devices such as Palm and Tablet PC, the technology can be equally implemented in a variety of other platform configurations -- either as physical buttons (hard key) or as touch screen buttons (soft key); TenGO is even suitable for keyless/wearable computer glove designs, making the technology truly device agnostic.
For manufacturers, the reduced key layout means more flexible creation of PDAs and other mobile devices with larger, easier-to-use buttons - without compromising design and form. This will make mobile text entry more user-friendly and frustration-free - eliminating the worry of mistyping on tiny keys.
TenGO is inexpensive to implement and viable for mass implementation in a variety of applications ranging from consumer to industrial and military. On a glove input device, it can even be used with a heads-up display (HUD) or a virtual reality environment.
Other platforms planned for the soft keyboard version of TenGO are the Symbian UIQ and Smart Displays.
